@cliffwade So now that I’ve been using Mastodon a bit, I’m trying to understand servers more. From a high level I understand what they are and the concept of decentralization, and that rules can be different per server. But since I can still follow people on different servers, what’s the appeal of joining a particular server (besides rules/moderation)? Is it the local timeline? Or something else? Thank you!

@cliffwade Got it! I had a feeling it was (at least partially) about local timeline. The server I am on is general and large so the local timeline isn’t all that interesting or useful to me, but I was thinking how great it would have been to have Mastodon in college where I could be on the college server and see the local timeline with the general goings-on of the college.
