vs. mailing lists

"'The threadiverse', aka group servers like , and are all based on the premise that each community is hosted on one instance, but users and posts can come from all over. So it's like any normal -style forum, except you use your own user instead of having to register and check everywhere.

Makes sense to me, and I'm not saying that they should do it any other way, but this is exactly how mailing lists work."

@rml @Sandra Ah, that's a lot less interesting than I thought it would be.

I had been thinking they'd federate groups/threads across instances like #NNTP / #Usenet.

#Threadiverse

Sandra,

@lispi314

But it has one thing in common with NNTP and Usenet of old: there's a lot of missing posts and dropped posts 💁🏻‍♀️

@Sandra @rml True, intentional and unintentional global inconsistency prevails.

Though smarter peering would help mitigate the unintentional part.

@Sandra
after reading your post I looked around for a android mail client that treats your mailbox like a BBS or microblog, and while I didnt find that I did find on which treats your mailbox like a group chat, and so far its been pretty nice as it allows you to navigate threads a bit easier than the usual phone mail client. But I think if I had my mail in a microblog fashion, where the inbox is like your timeline, and you could jump between "topic timelines" for your various mailing list directories, that would be so much nicer than anything currently available for phones.
