Temporary Related Announcement:

If you are currently having difficulties accessing my blog website from a ProtonVPN server, you can keep your VPN on but disable ProtonVPN's NetShield option temporarily. Also adding "www." sometimes helps.

I am currently in communication with Proton to resolve this issue promptly.

Em0nM4stodon,

Update!
I just had an email from ProtonVPN and this issue seems now resolved! You can now surf my blog while on NetShield 🛡🏄‍♀️
Yay! I am a happy Proton customer 😊💜

magnor,

@Em0nM4stodon
That is incredible news ! Did they explain what the issue was in the end ?

Em0nM4stodon,

@magnor Indeed! I am very pleased with this outcome 😊

They didn't share any details. They simply said the team made some optimizations to NetShield, which is fantastic I think. They were also very kind and interested in their correspondence and answered me very quickly. Yay Proton VPN! 💜✨

magnor,

@Em0nM4stodon Hey, whenever I try to access your blog from behind a VPN (proton), I get a 403 or a redirect error. I tend to get this whenever servers try to ban shared VPN IP blocks. Is this the intent?

Em0nM4stodon,

@magnor I am so sorry about that! This is not the intent at all. But it is a known problem (I have it too!).

I am having a big discussion with my hosting provider at the moment but they have been of no help so far. Oddly enough, if you add “www.” before the domain name you should be able to access it with Proton VPN without problem. It also works fine from some Proton servers, and it seems intermittent. I am still working on solving this ASAP. My blog should (and will) absolutely be accessible by VPN. Especially my article about the importance of using a VPN 🙃

magnor,

@Em0nM4stodon Thanks for your reply ! Your blog is a very useful and wonderfully written resource btw.

This problem sucks and I'm having this issue whenever some hosting provider decides to blanket ban certain IP ranges. I guess this a part of the ongoing war on VPNs (my country is even thinking of banning them altogether, yay France...). Anyway, rant over and thanks again for sharing and taking the time to reply !

Em0nM4stodon,

@magnor Thank you so much for saying that, I’m really happy to hear you like my blog :awesome:

I totally share your frustration with this as a VPN user myself. Banning VPNs country wide would be insane! 😧 I really hope it never comes to that. I will continue to advocate FOR VPNs with my hosting provider until they listen! We must continue fighting for our privacy rights! ✊🔒

magnor,

@Em0nM4stodon yeah this is infuriating. I work for a gov service (education) that blocks all VPN connections to our work emails and so on. We're being told this is because VPNs are only used by criminals... I'm not hopeful given that our government recently tried to use the fact that people were using Linux and signal as an aggravating factor in a trial... The fight goes on.

Em0nM4stodon,

@magnor Oh wow, seems like this government education service is in need for some education regarding VPN!

I read this devastating news a few months ago. A lot of education is needed, we have much work to do. The fight goes on indeed!

magnor,

@Em0nM4stodon Problem is, tbh, it's not only about education for lawmakers. For them this is about control. Sure, most of them are ignorant on these issues, but some do actually understand and those are the people pushing this kind of rethoric lately. Or maybe I'm just feeling cynical after the dumpster fire of an immigration law we just had our congress pass...

Education of the general public however, is absolutely critical, I do agree!

Em0nM4stodon,

@magnor Indeed, some people do know very well the misinformation they are spreading and this is sad. I do sincerely believe that by continuing to educate the general public about these topics we contribute to decreasing people's vulnerability to get manipulated for power. As the public opinion changes, policies also eventually change. Education is key!✨

NBCactus,

@Em0nM4stodon I glanced through your "Easy Privacy Tips" blog. I thouroughly enjoyed it! I would recommend Raivo (iOS) and Aegis (Android) instead of Authy for 2FA alternatives. They are both open source and feature packed and put privacy first! Authy is closed-source, has leaked secrets in the past and isn't very privacy focused.

SergoZar,

@Em0nM4stodon
I forgot to ask. Why is Firefox Focus recommended, and not regular Firefox or its forks, which are considered more private?

SergoZar,

@Em0nM4stodon I really want to give up Google completely and delete the data (but I will never believe that they delete it), but at the university they force me to use Class Room and Mit (

Em0nM4stodon,

@SergoZar It is challenging indeed

SergoZar,
SergoZar,

@Em0nM4stodon it's a very interesting feeling when you want to read an article in a language you don't know, and the translator gives some kind of delusion
XD

BabblingGeek,

@Em0nM4stodon you are positive and prolific presence and I appreciate you.

Em0nM4stodon,

@BabblingGeek Awww thank you so much for saying that, it truly means a lot to me :blobcatheart:
