"My long-term vision for RedReader is to restructure the app to more easily support other sites, including Lemmy" -RedReader
RedReader is a Reddit app with over 100k downloads on the Google Play store
"I think it would be cool to work with some kind of "open forum protocol" which would allow a variety of websites and apps to interoperate with each other through a uniform API."
I feel bad for the people who rely on accessibility features like those in r/blind. It feels like they don't have much choice and pretty limited in terms of options. I don't think lemmy/kbin has enough to offer them from an accessibility standpoint yet (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I hope RedReader supports the Fediverse soon for that, if nothing else.
@maegul I doubt the amount of money that apple would really make is worth the payroll of the person writing blogposts in the app store so I don't think its money, but they definitely seem to be aware of this place in a way that I haven't seen many other companies
Well Apple aren't exactly outside of the Ads business ... they've made slow movements to doing more ad stuff ... clearly trying to tow the line between "we respect privacy and protect you from tracking" and "maybe now's a good time to show a simple ad". So far, I don't have any problems from what I've seen. But from this perspective, big social companies are huge competitors for ads. If bringing them down helps, and then being the sole corporate entity through which a bunch of social media activity occurs helps more ... I can see some cynical strategic thinking.
But yea, generally at the moment, they seem to be aware and it's cool. So far the fediverse iOS app story has been a good one ... enough to earn some brand loyalty from some I'd say.
"Tafkars stands for "The API formerly known as...", is written in Rust and is pronounced like "tough cars". Tafkars is an API proxy that allows apps to talk to Lemmy through a familiar API from a kinder time. The hope is that this will make it easy for app developers to support Lemmy with only minimal code changes." @fediverse
I still have Infinity installed and will miss it sorely. It has some features Jerboa is still missing. But I am hoping some of these 3rd party devs will find a love for Lemmy. If Lemmy can hold a growing community.
They probably want to jump on the Fediverse hype bandwagon so it does not eventually leave them and their corporate interests behind... which is exactly what the Fediverse is trying to do so I'd ignore their attempts.
How do I mute/block annoying hashtags? I went into my settings menu and filtered out #AnnoyingPhrase should I not have used the #? Is there something else I should do? @fediverse
@riggbeck@fediverse I didn’t broadcast the specific hashtag. No need to rain on anyone’s parade just bc I’m not interested. Still, my efforts to clean up my timeline have been ineffective and now the #AnnoyingHashtag is REALLY annoying.
What Peertube instance or accounts to follow? @fediverse
What are your recommendations to have funny or interesting video content on Fediverse. Preferably on peertube.
Kolektiva.media "A collective effort to offer video hosting to anarchist collectives and individuals federated with the PeerTube network. Registrations are open, but you need to write us with why you want a Kolektiva.media account at kolektiva@riseup.net"
The Effective Altruism/Musk/Thiel/MacAskill/Longtermism crowd is obsessed with artificial general intelligence.
Their view is that bringing about "friendly" AGI, along with space travel, should be humanity's top priority. They believe that if a “friendly” AGI superintelligence is created whose goals “are aligned” with “human goals,” then a new Utopian age will begin.
Their view is also that the biggest threat facing humanity is a malevolent AGI superintelligence, whose goals are not aligned with "human goals".
That's the dichotomy. Promote "friendly" superintelligence, avoid malevolent superintelligence.
Okay then.
Let's follow their logic.
Where would a socialist, feminist, or pro-Black superintelligence fit in that dichotomy?
If a superintelligence evaluated the data and decided that Emma Goldman and Comandante Che were basically right, and the best hope for humanity is to do away with all the billionaires, would that be a friendly superintelligence that's aligned with "human goals", or a malevolent one?
Wrong community, so I did have to down-doot… but I also dig your post.
Their philosophies are pretty much a way to morally and/or pseudo-scientifically ret-con the heinous, antisocial, extractive shit they were already gonna do anyway.
“I need the money in order to decide the path of the world, and I deserve to be the one who decides because I’m the one who managed to get the money.” There’s no room for democracy in their world view.
@fediverse I’ve come to learn my federated timeline is only those followed by others on my instance. Is there a way I can explore the entire fediverse?
@singpolyma If they are not connected to my instance in some way, I cannot see them. If I cannot see them, I cannot follow them. I would like to learn about people who are not connected to my instance. So, I asked if there is a way to do that.
I love that I'm seeing more and more posts to Lemmy from Mastodon.
This one feature finally ties Lemmy in with the rest of the fediverse by providing the lacking feature: making top level posts. Lemmy (along with friendica!) will lead the way in making "groups" and forums in the fediverse, accessible from any platform you choose. @fediverse
