@ramsey maybe? :)

ramsey,
@ramsey@phpc.social avatar

@oliver Thanks for thinking of me! 🙂

They need someone within 2 hours timezone difference from Berlin, so that counts me out. I’ve also found a job that I started in early March, so I’m not looking at the moment.

@packagist I would be SO glad to work with you! I think I can be a good fit!

What's the main source of communication to apply? :)

Edit: nevermind, application sent 🚀

Skoop,
@Skoop@phpc.social avatar

@packagist perhaps this would be something for @MarkBaker?

MarkBaker,
@MarkBaker@phpc.social avatar

@Skoop @packagist Interesting is it would be, I suspect that with Packagist Conductors GmbH being a German company I'd run into tax issues while I'm still a UK citizen with the right to live and work only in the Netherlands and not in the EU as a whole.

MarkBaker,
@MarkBaker@phpc.social avatar

@Skoop @packagist Unless Packagist Conductors already deal with cross-border taxation for existing members of their team

naderman,
@naderman@phpc.social avatar

@MarkBaker @Skoop @packagist We already have someone working with us in the UK, and had someone in the Netherlands, I imagine in principle there'd be a way to still make this work via e.g. an EOR company in the respective location, so that shouldn't stop you!

Skoop,
@Skoop@phpc.social avatar

@MarkBaker ah, I did not realize you are only allowed in NL, not in the whole of EU. I thought this was a natural part of EU now that if you can work in one country, you can work in all

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@Skoop @MarkBaker Not as a UK immigrant after Brexit. Only in the country where you settled. You can't be living in or moving to other countries, until your 5 years are "up".

However, that shouldn't stop people from working as a contractor (or at all, I am not sure) for an EU country.

Skoop,
@Skoop@phpc.social avatar

@derickr @MarkBaker sad. stupid Brexit :(

MarkBaker,
@MarkBaker@phpc.social avatar

@Skoop @derickr not so worrying now. Once I've got my results for the last two exams (assuming I've passed them both) I can apply to IND for naturalization

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@MarkBaker @Skoop And then you can move freely around the EU27 as an EU citizen again!

jaapio,
@jaapio@phpc.social avatar

@derickr until nedix happens...
I truly hope it will never happen, but it's a thing

@MarkBaker @Skoop

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar
Skoop,
@Skoop@phpc.social avatar

@derickr @jaapio @MarkBaker he's "dropped" stuff before, then come back on that within 24 hours. I do not trust anything that guy says

jaapio,
@jaapio@phpc.social avatar

@derickr that means that I have to trust him on his words... Anything can happen in the next years.

MarkBaker,
@MarkBaker@phpc.social avatar

@derickr @jaapio @Skoop I think he's still hoping to get a larger majority in the next election, and reintroduce it again then

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@MarkBaker @jaapio @Skoop I don't believe he'll get a larger vote share (the PVV certainly has no majority).

Skoop,
@Skoop@phpc.social avatar

@derickr @MarkBaker @jaapio I am afraid you're wrong on that. If the negotiations fail and we get new elections, he'll crybaby about people not wanting to work with him and he'll get even more votes.

we're in a toxic friggin country here right now :(

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@Skoop @MarkBaker @jaapio What are you doing about it?

jaapio,
@jaapio@phpc.social avatar

@derickr we can just vote for another party right? That's how this works 🤓

Cc @Skoop @MarkBaker

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@jaapio @Skoop @MarkBaker But is that enough? That won't convince other people.

Skoop,
@Skoop@phpc.social avatar

@jaapio @derickr @MarkBaker I do vote for another party. I've never even considered voting for something like PVV. Even the thought makes me sick

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@Skoop @jaapio @MarkBaker Yes. But I can see how his appeal worked. Because they provide simple (unworkable) solutions for complex problems.

We see that here too.

So you (and I) need to do something more about this than just voting.

jaapio,
@jaapio@phpc.social avatar

@derickr from my point of view, I cannot argue against stupidity. Problem is many people are just angry, they are not reasonable. And if they get disappointed they will become more angry. Which will make them vote more extreme.
They only way to get a more sustainable systeem is to accomplish something that makes them less angry. So we can start talking again.

@Skoop @MarkBaker

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@jaapio @Skoop @MarkBaker Annoyingly, a best way to see how crap they are is to see them try governing.

Skoop,
@Skoop@phpc.social avatar

@derickr @MarkBaker @jaapio I've become an activist. Participated in several demonstrations. Co-founded a local chapter of XR.

The problem is that the PVV following can not be convinced. These are the people that think MSM is all bad, and that scientists are making things up.

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@Skoop @MarkBaker @jaapio They can be. Just not with logic. With feelings.

MarkBaker,
@MarkBaker@phpc.social avatar

@derickr @Skoop @jaapio Trying to pass my Inburgering exams so that I can become a Dutchie and get the right to vote. That's the only legal step open to me at the moment.

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@MarkBaker @Skoop @jaapio that's one of the reasons I naturalised in the UK. (and so that I had no issues if Brexit became a reality, in 2015)

MarkBaker,
@MarkBaker@phpc.social avatar

@derickr @Skoop I'm not planning on moving from the Netherlands, not when I'm so close to completing my inburgering (waiting on the results of the last two exams), but I am concerned about the tax implications of remote working for a non-NL company

MarkBaker,
@MarkBaker@phpc.social avatar

@derickr @Skoop But while I'm still British, I'll still make flapjack and chocolate tiffin. And tomorrow evening I'll be dressing up in all my Scottish regalia for a vossenjacht

MarkBaker,
@MarkBaker@phpc.social avatar
MarkBaker,
@MarkBaker@phpc.social avatar

@derickr @Skoop And another opportunity to wear my kilt on Sunday - https://www.archeon.nl/agenda/schots-weekend.html

derickr,
@derickr@phpc.social avatar

@MarkBaker @Skoop I've no excuse to own one, or wear one. :-(
