If you are reading this, you enjoy the openness and decentralisation of Web 3.0.

On , let's fast-forward to the future.

Web 4.0 will blend virtual and real environments while boosting innovation, rich content and industrial applications.

To ensure everyone benefits from it, we will:

  • Shape global standards for open Web 4.0
  • Foster a European Web 4.0 industrial ecosystem
  • Boost access to trusted information
  • Support virtual public services

How? ➡ https://europa.eu/!hJrNc4

@EU_Commission We used to have a decentralised Internet in the 90s. It was called "the Internet".

@EU_Commission oh my lord can we please drop the silly "Web 3.0 / 4.0" buzzwords already? Pretty please? 🙄

They've been utterly taken over by cryptocurrency peddlers and other snakeoil salesmen. They are unnecessary even if they hadn't been taken over.

Instead, can we focus on making the web we have trustworthy, privacy-preserving, and safe? :blobcatcoffee:

    @rysiek

    Their vision for the digital future and mine are almost disjoint, in any case. They believe in snakeoil like others believe in freedom ...

    rysiek,
    @rysiek@mstdn.social avatar

    @quincy you might want to take it up with the EU Commission instead. I am neither their spokesperson, nor employed by them, nor do I have any connection with them apart from being an EU citizen.

    Not sure why you decided it's a good idea to bother me about this. 🤷‍♀️

    @rysiek @EU_Commission I think it's very hilarious to declare applications that are classic Web 2 web3 because web3 never was but you want to dream of shaping WeB4.

    @EU_Commission Respectfully, this reads like a comedic parody of government officials not understanding the thing they are regulating.

    @EU_Commission For those reading this and wondering what on Earth the EU commission mean by Web 3.0 or Web 4.0 (??), I explain in this video: https://briefs.video/videos/what-is-web-3.0/

    aral,
    @aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar

    @EU_Commission What in sweet holy bullshit are you talking about? Has the heat gotten to you in Brussels too? Is this a cry for help? What the fuck is wrong with you people?

    max,

    @aral @EU_Commission While I don't share EUCO's impression how W3.0 is described I think their goals for 4.0 are admirable. Empower user, interoperability, more trustworthy services...
    I think even more because the Commission writes they value and read feedback posted here the tone of the replys should be respectful and constructive even if you disagree.
    btw the past does not come back and the EU proved to be a powerful regulator against big tech.

    aral,
    @aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar

    @max @EU_Commission My reply is as respectful and constructive as this absolute crock of clueless buzzword bullshit deserves. I’ve given my constructive thoughts twice at the European Parliament now. Please feel free to refer to those and don’t tone police people.

    emma,

    @aral @EU_Commission they let consultants get in past the front desk.

    @EU_Commission this is bad snake oil sales and the EU name should not be attached to it. Not only are you parroting the bad faith misrepresentation of web history that was concocted by idiot scammers who failed to understand the actual engineering aspects of their metaverse promise. You are also pathetically late to the party by shilling this shit a year behind, when the crypto bubble has already bursted and Zuck has already discontinued his store brand Second Life.

    jeremystartm,

    @EU_Commission I have never seen the EU do so much bs at once. Wow I hope the politicians thinking "this is great" will loose their job.

    @EU_Commission Web 3.0? Nope.

    I would be far keener on seeing the EU use its regulatory power to influence the web we already have than trying to invent a new one (not really an EU competence and there's no democratic mandate for it). Better to curtail the evils of surveillance capitalism before it destroys democracy and the planet. You should know very well who to support to effect this. Let's have GDPR 2.0 w enforcement not Web X.0 please.

    @EU_Commission what about helping starving people, fight against big fucking companies that are destroying our planet, and other ethical things to do ?!

    @EU_Commission

    yep, how about no?

    I don't want your buzzwords-autocounter at all, I did my best to take pictures of real wars to avoid your plastic imagery and as an ordinary internet citizen I demand the opposite.

    • Fund global standards already out there like ActivityPub, the worlds leading federated protocol, a completely open social network standard
    • Ensure Privacy against the hypercapitalist surveillance ecosystem you helped to create
    • Enable and incubate trusted information against corrupt politicians or populists
    • whatever you mean by “virtual public services” : Cyber and Fediverse!

    And, hell yes, I want #web0 as proposed by @aral too https://web0.small-web.org/

    Tupp_ed,
