RollingStone,

The tension between the state of Texas and the federal government over the border escalated on Thursday when the Texas National Guard seized control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, Texas, denying entry to federal authorities. https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/texas-national-guard-shelby-park-eagle-pass-border-patrol-1234945639/

@RollingStone

Texas is in the lead for being a secessionist state and starting a second civil war.

The Republican billionaire donors who run the oligarchy in Texas are funding the dissolution of the union, the felony disenfranchisement of women, state religion, the incarceration of LGBTQ, and slavery for migrants.

@Npars01 @RollingStone
Is there an opposite choice whereby instead of secession, the Feds can expel a state like, I don’t know, Texas?

@RollingStone This is what systemic accommodation and general inaction on fascism by the DOJ leads to, (with exception to the barbwire suit by the Feds).

@RollingStone They used to call this secession. I'm fine with cutting texas and florida loose to swim in their own sewage.

@RollingStone I think Texas should be immediately expelled from the Union. Whatever value they bring to the nation is overshadowed by the consequences of their continuing statehood. Let's see how they fare without the benefit of federal dollars, and without the benefit of membership in the United States of America.

MaryAliciaZiff,

@slcw @RollingStone
You're not entirely wrong in principle just in your facts.
TX would really do very well without federal funding, in fact, the question is how would some states do without TX's contribution to the federal gov't.

8th largest economy The Texas economy is officially the 8th largest economy in the world, valued at more than $2.4 trillion. (IMF GDP 2022)

slcw,
@slcw@newsie.social avatar

@MaryAliciaZiff @RollingStone Are you considering the total impact of the complete withdrawal of federal funding and infrastructure, as well as the relocation of all federal employees and facilities?

Texas lawmakers need to go through some things… like having all federal funding paused. Want to act like a secessionist? You should find out what that really means.

daveeater,

@RollingStone Hmmm. Can the Administration (DOD) federalize the Texas National Guard?

@RollingStone Getting harder and harder not to recognize we are already in the middle of a second Civil War.

Well, that's not accurate. The first one never ended the Confederacy merely retrenched and bided its time. Eventually, the played into their hands with adoption of that is a close cousin of the belief system. Now the billionaires created are bankrolling the movement and its huge Ministry of Disinformation.

    @GhostOnTheHalfShell @RollingStone Yes, but IMO they were kept somewhat in check until the collaborated by full throated adoption of (rapacious laissez faire capitalism) that allowed capture of MSM, creation of 24/7 propaganda networks, and increasing shift of wealth to the top.
