Accessibility tip:

If you don't use a screenreader to access the internet, you may be unaware that case matters in hashtags. Sadly, Mastodon tends to lower case them even when you're trying to camel case them.

If you lower case a multiword hashtag, the screenreader reads it like it's one word - making gibberish out of it. If you camel case it (capitalize the start of each word even though you're not spacing between words), the screenreader can differentiate the words.

The 21-year-old joined hundreds of protesters in a march against fossil fuel subsidies on Saturday.

The protest devolved into a standoff as dozens of police officers, some on horseback, attempted to stop protesters from blocking a main road.

I just started reading Democracy Awakening by the great Heather Cox Richardson, and the historical precedents for trumpist fascism laid out in sentence after sentence, paragraph after paragraph, are literally sickening. I mean, I lived through some of this and had no idea that Nixon secretly undermined the Vietnam peace talks to make Democrats look bad. We must keep TFG out of public office.

It's time that judges on the Supreme Court who believe in defending the constitution and the rule of law take an actual stand. These christo-fascist and bribe taking judges are making a mockery of the court and the law. Does anybody else ever think how messed up it is that unless you go out of your way (or live in a very rural area), you are bombarded with ads for the entire time you are awake.

  • Ads on your phone
  • Ads on your TV
  • Ads on every place they can buy outside
  • Ads on almost every website

It is honestly exhausting, and I wonder what a world with heavily limited ads would look like.

Incidentally, the lack of ads is one of the very nice things about self hosting things, and being on fedi.

@ainmosni I was in China in 1986 where/when there were no ads anywhere, and it's not the idyll you think it would be. It was gray, dull, dark and lifeless.
