@RickiTarr@lisamelton Demanding endless purity tests is part of it. Just look at all the anti-Biden rhetoric from progressives rn for a great example of that. Yes he’s not a great candidate and certainly not progressive, but the only possible alternative is so much worse. Progressives seem to be largely incapable of holding their noses and choosing the lesser of two evils, which directly results in greater evils occurring. It’s infantile.
@RickiTarr This is my big frustration with "the Left." Ironically, the problem comes from being principled: the more motivated a person is, the more they'll fight for their principles.
...and that leads to nonstop infighting among those who won't allow forward progress until everything aligns 100% with their own values.
Those on the right, on the other hand, are generally businesspeople. They don't give a fuck about principles. They do understand that 30% of what they do want on 30% of their own terms is a lot better than 100% of what they don't want on 100% of somebody else's terms, so they work together with people they don't like (and often disagree with) to get things moved as far as they can in their chosen direction.
They're also generally smart enough to leave the backstabbing until after the stabbee has served their purpose, and to do it out of public view.
@KatS Yes, I tend to agree, The Left is also constantly in "Putting Out Fires" mode, so we are always on the defensive and never playing Offense. It's much easier to keep things the same or regress backwards than to move forward.
Progressives have popular policies, generally exceeding 60% of Americans.
But centrists ruin it again and again. And get offended when these facts are pointed out to them.
Because centrists are moral cowards who want to maintain their fiction that it is possible to be 'economically conservative and socially liberal' -- IE: structurally repressive.
'I have Republican family and friends! I live in the suburbs! I have to get along!'
Meanwhile people are dying of so many things that we can easily afford to fix.
But gods forbid we change anything without the permission of the very worst people in our society. We wouldn't want these awful people mad at our 'reasonable centrists'.
Get out of here with that cowardly, selfish crap.

Purity politics is a problem, I'm practical. But progressives are constantly betrayed.
Look what happened to Bernie in Ohio. Look what that great 'lefty' Elizabeth Warren did to him.
You're talking about sensitive, moral, injured people who get denied over and over again, people who volunteer, who play fair, who's ideas get hollowed out into things like identity politics.
Of course they're upset and living on a hair trigger waiting for some haircut to betray them.
@RickiTarr Because they actually don’t understand conservatives and refuse to do it on ‘principles’. If you want to fight and win against someone you need to forego a certain amount of decency. Progressives think this as bad thing. But it’s just fact of life
