I’m off on the rails again!

Extra Day 09 coming up today - Berlin Südkreuz to Nuits-sous-Ravières - and checking a bunch of borders around Basel on the way

And - unusually - I have a regular bike with me, not the Birdy

Here’s today’s intro
https://urbanists.video/w/iDAB3Jd4jYiPucXbpxn6F2

PGLux,

@jon

Will you take the Tram to Leymen?🇫🇷

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@PGLux going to all of these. By bike!

PGLux,

@jon

OK Thx.

Solid program, but Leymen shall then wait another time...

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@PGLux yep. I can’t do them all today. If I had the Birdy I could have, but I am taking a regular bike (to then leave in Ravières) and so have a slow series of TER trains French side. So have to leave Saint-Louis latest 15:00.

PGLux,

@jon

Yeah, I know problem: to TER BFC planners, there is no such thing as an evening owl...

Probably AGC+Regiolis+Regiolis+AGC...

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

This is the bike for today

It goes in ICEs, no problem, if you reserve

But pretty much no TGVs take bikes. So from Basel to Nuits-sous-Ravières later it’s only regional trains for me… with 4 changes between Basel and Nuits 😳

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

So how does this simple reserve a bike on a ICE work?

Today my ticket is Interrail

So I ONLY need a bike reservation. You can do this in the app Next DB Navigator

iOS https://apps.apple.com/de/app/next-db-navigator/id1351202913?l=en

Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.deutschebahn.app.android

At the moment this isn’t possible in the regular DB Navigator

KarlE,

@jon is it also possible via the bahn.de web page, or perhaps even (gasp) a ticket vending machine?

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@KarlE only if you ALSO buy a ticket AFAIK. Before you used to have to go to a ticket office for this.

nblr,
@nblr@chaos.social avatar

@jon Finally! I thought I’d have to go to the counter, but now for my next trip the app can tell me “computer says no” instead. [sadpanda]

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@nblr could be the places are sold out (was the case for the ICE I’d ideally have taken today)

nblr,
@nblr@chaos.social avatar

@jon It’s pretty soon but it also is cross border. Will try next time with more time ahead.

nblr,
@nblr@chaos.social avatar

@jon It’s pretty soon and it also is cross border. No hopes there. Will try next time further in advance.

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@nblr if DB Fernverkehr is the operator it ought to work if there’s space (I’ve booked to Basel today)

nblr,
@nblr@chaos.social avatar

@jon Will keep you posted next time I try. (although I really prefer the comfort of the ECE)

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

@nblr when I took that ECE a few weeks ago the train was knackered inside. Was a bit disappointed. Related: from December that’ll use a Stadler Giruno instead, and those take bikes.

PGLux,

@jon @nblr

ETR-610s are in dire condition, after 12 years of service...🤡

jon, (edited )
@jon@gruene.social avatar

And AFAIK the only other ways to do this - bike reservation without the ticket as well - is at a ticket office or on the phone.

Eventually I’m pretty sure this will be possible in regular DB Navigator too, but it isn’t yet.

Edit: as @flyingtomoon points out to me, this ought to all work on https://next.bahn.de/ as well

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

This is what the bike compartment in a ICE4 looks like

Some rather thoughtless person has put a bike in a case in the aisle to the right here, when they could have made everyone’s life easier stowing it to the left

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

Fog on the fields - south of Berlin

jon,
@jon@gruene.social avatar

Another complete failure of the Interrail App this morning

It needs an internet connection to activate a travel day. Turn on mobile data. I add my trips, activate them

In the train there’s a ticket check… and my trips have disappeared. Mobile data off, add trips and it’s ok again. But the app is totally lousy

    @Peternimmo these trains aren’t really charming. But they work. Solid.

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    And I’m back in Mainhattan. Haven’t been here since… Sunday!

    Onwards today though - in this ICE as far as Mannheim

    ICE4 at Frankfurt (Main) Hbf

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    ✅ Perfect ICE trip from Berlin - calm and on-time to Mannheim (even the Riedbahn didn’t let me down)
    ✅ Combination of Interrail and BahnBonus works to get you into DB Lounges 🙂
    ✅ Got some excellent news on funding for projects this autumn

    Today is going pretty well so far! 🙂

    Next: ICE to Basel, then 🚲 to a bunch of borders, then onwards into France

    lewd,
    @lewd@zug.network avatar

    @jon ... in case You want a Franzbroetchen, we sometimes have TER trains here !

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @lewd No Lauterbourg today. I’m checking all the secondary borders at Basel today (although I’m not hopeful I’ll find anything that needs improving though)

    PGLux,

    @jon @lewd

    There can always be improvements, even in Greater Basle:

    • extension from Riehen Gr to Lörrach
    • extension from St Louis Gr to St Louis Gare...
    wrzlbrnft,
    @wrzlbrnft@troet.cafe avatar

    @PGLux @jon @lewd There are some studies around but Lörrach can't decide where to built a tram which doesn't run too close to the existing Wiesentalbahn.

    I'd rather prefer a tram extension from Weil to Riehen and then on to Lörrach. So services between Weil and Lörrach would be much improved.

    St-Louis Grenze - St-Louis Gare (tram 11) would be highly necessary but as always local citizens are too afraid to lose parking spaces in the city center.

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @wrzlbrnft @PGLux @lewd Autoland... errr, Frankreich!

    PGLux,

    @jon @wrzlbrnft @lewd

    It will happen though, sooner or later...

    panda,
    @panda@freiburg.social avatar

    @jon fingers crossed for the upcoming Baden leg of your journey

    kristianaas,

    @jon Good to hear, especially curious about your new cross border project. Greetings from Lunel, heading towards Cerbère/Portbou and Spain.

    PGLux,

    @kristianaas @jon

    Lunel, native city of my Mum, and Capital for 🇫🇷 Jihadism...

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @PGLux @kristianaas I hope those two facts are not connected! 🙂

    PGLux,

    @jon @kristianaas

    No they are not, but my parents are now having a bad time trying to sell their studio there...

    The poor service of TER Occitanie ex-LR there doesn't help, either.

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @kristianaas the part I am especially happy about is finally going to Ireland, and investigating the border to Northern Ireland. But there are lots of other interesting events and trips too! And for the first time in ages a NightJet in there too.

    Pepijn,
    @Pepijn@mastodon.online avatar

    Oh, you got a different way of funding it? Sounds good!

    Just wondering as I've seen you do short on location interviews with journalists: have you ever considered asking a journalistic radio/podcast maker to accompany you for a longer time (like a multi day trip, from start to finish)?

    @jon

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @Pepijn sort of. This autumn it is built sort of backwards. I have a bunch of events and work contracts that are paid, and I am stitching around those, and have a little funding for some of the rail parts, especially the days in Ireland.

    PGLux,

    @Pepijn @jon 🤡 🤡

    Maybe he 's now so knowledgeable about border points that some intelligence service offered him some money🤡

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @PGLux @Pepijn Haaaa. That would be funny. But sadly (or thankfully!) no… 🙂

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    So this is what's coming up at lunchtime today

    5 lines I have not yet visited, all to the north of Basel - and I am cycling to all of them

    Former 1000mm Basel tramway - Riehen 🇨🇭 - Lörrach 🇩🇪

    This explains the history: https://www.g-st.ch/trambasel/bvb_blt/htmlsite/hst_riehengrenze.html

    Could the tram be extended to Lörrach once more?

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    Lörrach-Stetten 🇩🇪 - Riehen bei Basel 🇨🇭

    There are regional services here, and the occasional night train going to the Lörrach Autoreisezugterminal - but I see no real additional potential here as the line ends in Zell im Wiesental

    @NiklasMM@freiburg.social avatar

    @jon fun fact: There is no Basel Good Bf :(

    Although SBB fans might argue that SBB is good and therefore Basel SBB is Basel Good Bf

    NiklasMM,
    @NiklasMM@freiburg.social avatar

    @jon It's actually an interesting station for a number of reasons: It's fully within Switzerland, but operated by Deutsche Bahn and still within the EU customs union, meaning travelers can be subject to customs checks while leaving the station, but you can switch trains coming from Germany and going back into it without leaving the EU customs union. Also it's not owned by DB, but by the German government directly.

    Thanks for coming to my TED talk

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @NiklasMM first time I ever got off there today. I’ve changed there many times!

    partim,
    @partim@social.tchncs.de avatar

    @jon @NiklasMM Bought my first Bahncard 100 from the DB booking office there. Had to go into the Swiss post office next door half an hour before closing asking for seven thousand euros in cash. The lady said: “I’m sorry,” break for effect, “I’ll have to go to the back for that.” Walking with seven grand in an envelope even for just a few hundred metres was … weird. Coming back to the booking office, the gentleman at the counter waved me to skip the queue. I think I fixed his provision for weeks.

    On the TER Mulhouse-Belfort

    Ticket control

    Train manager to passenger: where’s your reduction card?

    (She shows it)

    Train manager: that’s not you!

    Passenger: it’s my brother

    Train manager: that’s not how it works. Do you have a passport?

    @apicultor we don’t know yet. The argument is ongoing!

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    The argument continues. The passenger changes her story to the reduction card being from a friend. But by low the train manager is at the end of his nerves. As the passengers won’t pay they’re likely to be accompanied off the train by police at Belfort I reckon.

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    Yep. Passengers accompanied off the train in Belfort. The train manager ran out of patience with their bullshit.

    So - as promised - a summary of what I looked at today

    Former 1000mm Basel tramway - Riehen 🇨🇭 - Lörrach 🇩🇪

    The tram turning loop is currently right at the border, Swiss side. Extending it along the main road into Lörrach would not be hard - but there it’d run right parallel to the railway. And it’s not obvious where else to put it! Chances this changes: low

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    Lörrach-Stetten 🇩🇪 - Riehen bei Basel 🇨🇭

    Solid S-Bahn cross border service that runs every 30 mins. Not much more that could be done without double tracking the line. This is about as good as it can be given current infra. Chances this changes: low to medium

    Stadler Flirt S-Bahn service crosses the border (border is where the barrier is on the road at the end of the clip)

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    1000mm Basel Tramway - Weil am Rhein 🇩🇪 - Basel 🇨🇭

    This tram crosses Friedlingen in Germany before terminating with a strange looking turning loop at a shopping centre at Weil am Rhein station, at the edge of the town centre. Weil is big enough to justify extending it along the main street, but chances of this are low

    Station.

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    Palmrain 🇩🇪 - Huningue 🇫🇷

    The rail bridge over the Rhein was dismantled in 1937, so all that’s left are some industrial railways on both sides. The bridge is also some way north of the centres of Weil and Huningue, so I can’t see a tram working here either. Actually using the industrial lines would be a start!

    Rhein and silo, French side

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    1000mm Basel Tramway - Saint Louis 🇫🇷 - Basel 🇨🇭

    A real missed opportunity. The line extends well into France, but serves neither the airport (a couple of km further) nor the centre of Saint-Louis, which is the other side of the railway line from where the tram is. Fixing these faults would make a lot of sense! Chances: medium

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    And although the airport is on French territory, this road connects it to Switzerland. So you don’t have to do double customs controls.

    Protected airport road

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    I didn’t analyse the main rail borders today as I’ve taken them loads of times - Weil am Rhein 🇩🇪 - Basel Bad Bf 🇨🇭 and Basel St Johann 🇨🇭 - Saint-Louis 🇫🇷. I’ve also been to Grenzach 🇩🇪 - Basel Bad Bf 🇨🇭 before, and electrification is planned there.

    So in Basel all I’m missing is the tram via Leymen 🇫🇷.

    PGLux,

    @jon

    The famous Route Douanière...

    Until 01/07/90 (i.e. free movement of capital within 🇪🇺 and between 🇪🇺 and Third Countries, countless suitcases full with banknotes / gold would be thrown from the bridges (🇫🇷 ) down to this road (🇨🇭 )

    AndiBarth,
    @AndiBarth@muenchen.social avatar

    @jon There used to be also swiss cellular network but France disabled it

    acb,
    @acb@mastodon.social avatar

    @jon The tram, IIRC, is also technically in Switzerland through the entire journey (leaving from the Swiss sector of the terminal and not stopping in French territory).

    smveerman,
    @smveerman@zug.network avatar

    @jon For the extension to the airport the first tracks are already laid behind the railway station, but the problem is that the need for the existing bus line via the neutral road stays, because of customs issues.

    alfajet,
    @alfajet@alfajet.masto.host avatar

    @jon I know... This is really frustrating.

    Turns out that tomorrow I'll have to fly to Basel and I'll have no choice but have to rent a car to get to my final destination because the public transports from this airport to France is just so bad.

    First time I'll fly since 2018, I really don't look forward to it...

    wrzlbrnft,
    @wrzlbrnft@troet.cafe avatar

    @alfajet @jon Where are you going in France? At least there are half-hourly connections operated by Distribus to Saint-Louis station with hourly (sometimes even half-hourly) connecting TER services to Mulhouse and Strasbourg.

    alfajet,
    @alfajet@alfajet.masto.host avatar

    @wrzlbrnft
    I'm going to a small town in Franche Comté. I'll land around 8pm, there won't be anymore trains for me at that time, believe me, I checked. The latest train was around 5pm, lol.

    And when I am lucky enough to have an early flight, the changes are usually so bad that it takes 2.5h vs 1.5h by car. Done that many times when I was student...

    I usually take the eurostar / tgv to Besançon instead but tomorrow's prices are way too expensive...
    @jon

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @alfajet @wrzlbrnft oh then I understand. Evening trains in BFC are non existent.

    @jon There are plans to double track this route in the Riehen area to increase S6 dervices to a 15 minutes Takt. But decision has still to be maked if this should be in a tunnel or not.

    PGLux,

    @jon

    How busy was this TER Lyon=> Paris?

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @PGLux I’m in it still ;-) Quite empty tonight - only 20% full. Probably the quietest I’ve ever seen it!

    PGLux,

    @jon

    As you were travelling in a Unit ("Automoteur")) rather than in loco-hauled formation ("C160"), you ran somehow faster.

    Belfort - Montbéliard: 135 (Autom.) - 130 (C160)
    Montbéliard - Pompierre: 115 (Autom) - 110 (C160)
    Pompierre - Deluz: 100 (Autom.) - 90 (C160)
    Deluz - Chalezeule: 125 (Autom) - 120 (C160)
    Chalezeule - Viotte: 100

    jon,

    @panda indeed! All on time approaching Besançon

    panda,
    @panda@freiburg.social avatar

    @jon Awesome!

    PGLux,

    @jon

    I presume this one was bound for Paris-Est...

    Any large 🇰🇷 parties on board, as pre-Covid?

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @PGLux No. All calm, apart from the passengers with the weird reduction card story. And yes, was a train to Paris Est.

    PGLux,

    @jon

    Once EAP✈️ has its railway link, it would be a good idea to extend the TER Paris - Mulhouse until Bâle SNCF, with stops in EAP and St-Louis.

    PGLux,

    @jon

    These RCR (Rames Corail Réversibles) will run at least until the end of this decade for GE and AuRA.

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @PGLux I wish they were better looked after. Clean them! Repair broken seats! That’d be a step forward.

    PGLux,

    @jon

    Agreed...

    Moquette and plush seat covers are heaven for mites...

    They looked great when TER200 began service on 22/09/91, and their livery was even nicer than the current TER grey.

    bilginveperk,
    @bilginveperk@piaille.fr avatar

    @jon @PGLux They were cleaner and tidier before they have improved the service frequency. All the consist were the renovated (Alsace livery) corails. But after they acquired corail cars from other regions (and most of them about to be scrapped- so they are mosly worn out. Now most of the consists are mixed. Like this photo, this is old SNCF long distance interior, not the original TER 200 one.

    PGLux,

    @bilginveperk @jon

    Velvet covers and grey moquette on the walls are my nightmare...

    • those (in)famous curtains...
    bilginveperk,
    @bilginveperk@piaille.fr avatar

    @PGLux @jon The legroom in second class corails are a disgrace too ! I am wondering if they have added extra seats for TER services for increasing capacity. I took an Ouigo Vitesse Classique in last summer and the seatpitch felt way more spacious.

    PGLux,

    @bilginveperk @jon

    Originally, open-room 2nd-class cars on TER200 were all B11tu (88 seats).

    But after some 10 years of operation, luggage-racks were removed at one end of the open-room, increasing the capacity to 92 seats, although such cars were not re-named B11 1/2tu.

    This extra row has no view to any window 🤬

    1/2

    PGLux,

    @bilginveperk @jon

    Among the ex-mainline Corail cars later cascaded to TER200, some are (still?) B10tu (80 seats), i.e. as roomy as 1st-class cars.

    On Ouigo VC, the mix of cars in use is very diverse, with ex-TER and ex-Mainline, B10tu and B11tu... So, booking there is tantamount to a big lottery.

    2/2

    bilginveperk,
    @bilginveperk@piaille.fr avatar

    @PGLux @jon The mine was surely an ex-mainline (It was a Lyon Perrache- Paris Austerlitz service)

    PGLux,

    @bilginveperk @jon

    Any pics of the interiors?

    bilginveperk,
    @bilginveperk@piaille.fr avatar
    PGLux,

    @bilginveperk @jon

    Yep, definitely ex-Mainline interiors, although these cars may have run on TER services at a later stage (GE, BFC, AuRA, PCA...)

    bilginveperk,
    @bilginveperk@piaille.fr avatar

    @PGLux @jon I wonder also you are working at SNCF ? You know lots of things !

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @bilginveperk I can confirm @PGLux knows a LOT of things, but given his scepticism of much of what SNCF does…?

    PGLux,

    @jon @bilginveperk

    Let's say that I have a critical eye...

    SNCF has done its share of the current mess, but the prime responsibility for this lies at the Ministry.

    @jon Two of my favourite excuses (both in the UK) were someone pretending to be surprised when the guard told them their season ticket expired in April (it was August), and a man I saw pick a ticket up off the train floor which turned out to be valid between two stations that train wasn't going to

    K1ngdaKa88,
    @K1ngdaKa88@zug.network avatar

    @jon whuaaa, is only forced to pay full fare?!
    In Switzerland that would be fraudulent use and will result in a high penalty fare (more than the standard 100.- for traveling without ticket) and brought to a legal proceeding 🫣

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @K1ngdaKa88 No. It was tougher. They were escorted off the train in Belfort.

    Train manager: Could you show me the reduction card?
    Train manager: It is not an appropriate card to benefit of "famille nombreuse (large family)" tariff
    Woman: Why?
    Train manager: It is a Belgian "famille nombreuse" reduction card. It is not valid in France.
    Afterwards, the woman tried to argue…

    I'm sure it's not practical but this jeweled finish makes me want to populate a disco ball with retro reflectors. Maybe it's interesting to see in the dark with some focused lights on it. Maybe it's a little more interesting to focus a light on it in the dark while it spins

    @jon isn't 124 on average a bit slow for an ICE?

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @shipscrewunscrewer No. It’s pretty normal on mixed infra.

    shipscrewunscrewer,

    @jon ah good to know. I only ever get to enjoy the schnellfahrstrecken, the rest is usually RE or RB here...

    I worked on renovating the Weil-am-Rhein train station in 2016 after the tram had been installed.

    It was one of the few projects where everything was financed and managed by entities outside of the DB. The cities of Basel and Weil-am-Rhein wanted the train station to be modern and to the level of the new tram they had built, but the DB basically said "we're not doing it". So the cities financed the project, did all of the project management and gave the finished station back to the DB.

    jicka,
    @jicka@social.coop avatar

    @jon
    It was a lot of fun to work on the project because everyone was actually really motivated to do the best job possible. The DB people mostly just saw us as an annoyance and did the minimum they were required (mostly validating our drawings).
    The coordinators, planners, controllers were all super motivated, and the city did their best to allow the project to be as successful as possible.

    I hope you enjoy our grey stairs in a grey train station, they were installed with love :)

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @jicka I didn't actually go down onto the platforms! But I find DB weird on this - they pay very little attention to the experience in stations.

    jicka,
    @jicka@social.coop avatar

    @jon
    You didn't miss anything :D

    I feel like DB Station & Service probably never got the focus and funding required internally to make a good job.

    Internal politics and the prestige of DB Netz AG internally was making it difficult for things not related to the trains themselves to get the needed support.

    I never worked for the DB directly, so just speculating.

    ummels,
    @ummels@freiburg.social avatar

    @jon Double-track is planned here to increase frequency. But Riehen and possibly also Lörrach wish for a tunnel, which woul of course open only much later and would be vastly more expensive.

    acb,
    @acb@mastodon.social avatar

    @jon The Basel trams have a nasty surprise: you get free travel on them with any hotel accommodation in Basel, but it does not apply past the German border. Nowhere on the ticket, nor at tram stops, does this say this. Meanwhile, immediately north of the border, the trams are swarming with German ticket inspectors reeling in their catch.

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @acb ah but to where is the Deutschlandticket valid I wonder?

    emmatonkin,

    I'm reminded of that bit in Norse mythology where Loki manages to avoid being beheaded by the dwarf Brok after losing a wager because, as Loki says, Brok has a right to his head but not to a single inch of his neck. Oh sure, you have a right to this side of the border and to that side of the border but the border... hmm...

    Alon,
    @Alon@mastodon.social avatar

    @acb @jon Wait, if you have that plus a D-Ticket, is it legal to travel across the border?

    acb,

    @Alon @jon That’s a good question; I was there before the Deutschlandticket, so don’t know.

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @acb @Alon I’ll try to check today. If I can find someone to ask.

    simon,
    @simon@sueden.social avatar

    @acb @jon Where do the trams cross the border? Is that in direction of Riehen?

    jon,

    @simon @acb No. Friedlingen-Weil. Riehen the tram stops just short of the border.

    Yes, Leymen 🇫🇷 is definitely a must do.

    Ideally, it should become as famous as Llivia 🇪🇸 was in the 🇫🇷 geography exam for the Certificat d'Etudes Primaires in the late-19th / early-20th centuries.

    hengymrohebwlad,

    @jon

    Travelled on a couple of ICE routes last week & was curious about 1st class carriage config on ICE703 with several 5 person "Covid compartments" & loads of advertising but no WC at one end, & only 1WC at the other end & no separate luggage racks for big cases. This is a long distance route (Hamburg-Munich) so it was weird there was no space for cases (had to sit for 3 hrs with case between my knees). Is this the new ICE normal? Must admit I was glad to be on an SBB train for return to CH!

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @hengymrohebwlad ICE 703 is supposed to run with a ICE1 (BR 401) https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICE_1 and so those compartments have been there from the start. But yes, for large luggage these trains are not as good as later ICEs. These trains are in the course of being renovated though... So honestly it's the old normal that is being phased out!

    hengymrohebwlad,

    @jon Thanks for the explanation. Reckon I need to travel lighter anyway!

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @hengymrohebwlad Those ICE1s actually have decent overhead racks - which is fine for medium size stuff, but no more. Hoisting stuff up there is no simple task!

    PGLux,

    @jon @hengymrohebwlad

    Until their redesign in 2005-2006, ICE1s would feature

    • gorgeous seat pitch (the true train of the Deutsche Wunder)
    • lockers
    IanMoore3000,

    jon,

    maartje,
    @maartje@blahaj.social avatar

    @jon i often fix that bydeactivating a trip and reacrivating. But never lost today’s trip when on a train yet, maybe because i keep opening it every once in a while to see if it still works

    grlodi,
    @grlodi@mastodon.social avatar

    @jon I usually turn on airplane right before ticket inspection and it does the trick. Sometimes it doesn’t though and then gotta ask the inspector to wait 5 minutes 😬

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @grlodi Yes, that’s the normal trick. But even that doesn’t work if it’s lost your trips and hence doesn’t have a valid trip for the day!

    @malte right. I was posting about it on Friday last week too - normally it just won't show my pass QR code. Today it lost the trips as well 🤷‍♂️

    malte,
    @malte@frankfurt.social avatar

    @jon Did you ever run into trouble because of the app?
    So far I haven't but I wouldn't be surprised if people actually get thrown of a train because of this issue.

    jon,
    @jon@gruene.social avatar

    @malte annoyance, yes. Trouble, no.
