I feel like I need to say that Trump had a rally in the Bronx after all. He even found some black people to stand with him. It seems like he's making friends at the courthouse ... people he can commiserate with about how mean those prosecutors are. The guys he was with are notorious criminals. Gang leaders responsible for shootings.
They are not well liked at all.
But I can see how Trump would find them ... relatable. They are his peers in so many ways.
I mean this is just about letting his supporters feel like they aren't really racist. Not Racist Racist. Look! There is a black person right there with him! Would a racist do that? No! See! It's fine.
I guess it's a small thing that he feels some of his supporters still care a little about that.
@futurebird back when he was mayor of NYC, I was very sure he took on organized crime figures because he wanted a monopoly on organized crime. As someone who has been east of the Mississippi only a few times, and whose mental image of NYC was based on having started reading the NYT at age 5 (way too early), and having watched a dozen episodes of Sesame Street, I could have been very wrong, but looking back on it, I don't think I was too far off.
There are definitely times when the Urge to do Journalism bites. For example: I'm sat drinking a coffee overlooking Whitstable harbour. There's a ship unloading, and I search for the name. This leads me to find out that it was impounded earlier this year for a bunch of safety violations, and is owned by a reasonably elaborate bunch of shell companies. Probably nothing illegal, but quite a lot of playing "pass the asset" from one company to another.
@BashStKid@ianbetteridge oh, yeah, I worked adjacent to the financial industry for quite a while. I’m definitely familiar with the creativity of the contents in their mandatory reporting.
The turtle tank’s name as painted on the “turtle shell” is really ГРОМОЗЕКА (Gromozeka) from a Soviet cartoon, not ГОМОЗЕКА (Homozeka). The original name Gromozeka is about thunder (гром) but on the tank it’s still likely a word play (read below). The name twisted as ГОМОЗЕКА is a word play too and it’s much more complex than “haha tank gay”. Гомосек (homosek) is Russian for “homosexual”, but it’s masculinative word and spelled differently (-zeka versus -sek). And зека (zeka) is a word on its own, more precisely an phonetic for acronym ЗК (ZK) or заключенный meaning “locked up person” or simply a prisoner. And Russian army uses prisoners on mass scale, forming whole Storm-Z units of them, where Z also denotes the use of “zeks” (prisoners). And #Russia military circles are indeed totally obsessed on male homosexual practices which is seen both as a popular insult and phobia, but also as an unavoidable part of social life in prison and army, where whole social hierarchies are built on who submits to whom. So the tank name is likely a tongue in a cheek insult some Russian soldiers made towards others or just self-ironic.
P.S. an advanced quiz for those interested in etymology of Russian language: why modern Russian writes Г (G) in foreign words and names that start with H, like Гитлер for Hitler, гомосек for homosexual, гомеопатия for homeopathy etc?
but languages changed a LOT since, e.g. an Ukrainian speaker can basically immediately understand Polish and Czech texts once they learn the respective alphabet (supposedly it is like a German reading Dutch), while a pure Russian speaker can not.
True, modern Russian vocabulary has significantly diverged from the other Slavic lanugages. Possibly under influences that are now also politically incorrect to even mention :)
Having massively over-promised on an immature technology with really quite a limited range of productive use-cases, #AI firms are now contriving to deliver.
However, because there is no tangible product, they are using their financial might and institutional power to bludgeon the Internet and society as a whole into an AI-shaped hole.
It's like a company that makes anti-diarrhoea meds pumping laxatives into the water-supply to engineer enough demand to justify billion of investment.
@kyonshi I was quite impressed that banks et al didn't get taken in by crypto but they have been absolutely 100% rinced by AI (which seems to be a lot of the same people as crypto, possibly because they invested in computing power and have now pivotted) @Printdevil@vdonnut
@kyonshi@Taskerland@vdonnut I have a fromage brain filter which clicks in instantly consultants are involved. The second PwC or Deloitte (Or whoever.. pick your path to adventure) turn up, I just hear them saying "BUY MY CHEESE" in various tones of voice, and once you start just listening for it. Their tone even slightly changes.. "Ah.. Cheese Tone"
@grueproof I decided to experiment with my new daily driver laptop before fully transitioning to it and threw #Manjaro on it. So far so good (I was impressed that all the hardware just worked) but I've also been pretty careful when doing updates and MOSTLY avoiding the AUR. Good luck!
Survivors of the Israeli attack on the displacement camp in Rafah:
“The air raid burned an entire block. They burned people alive"
The attack used seven 2,000-pound bombs - a clear message from Israel & US that the massacres against displaced persons & children will continue, & that breaking international law will not stop.
@DrALJONES Is there a slight chance that Biden supplied these bombs, the same Biden who said Iran was responsible when some of its weapons were used in Jordan? Is he the responsible one now? Will he make himself accountable?
Irgendwo muss man also eine Grenze ziehen.
French President, Emmanuel #Macron: “There are no safe areas in #Rafah and we call for full respect for international law and an immediate #ceasefire.”
Freaking hypocrite, what are you going to do about it?
@beh_72
You can. It's a small effect, but multiplied by millions, it can change the world.
Use your wallet as your vote. Boycott all those supporting this atrocities.
We are the majority, ww just need to start acting, even of it's just something aa insignificant as blocking pro Israeli accounts and stop buying crap from companies supporting genocide. @palestine@israel
@faab64@palestine@israel i live in an arab country we already in support of palestine but we have no power in the world system
