André 3000 is one of the greatest rappers of our time. He spoke to Hanif Abdurraqib from The Bitter Southerner magazine about freedom, fame, flutes, and if André will make another rap album. "I can only give what I’m feeling," he says.
Here’s André 3000 performing “That Night In Hawaii When I Turned Into A Panther And Started Making These Low
Register Purring Tones That I Couldn't Control ... Shit Was Wild”
This could be a Jazz Club sketch from The Fast Show.
For the folks being freaked out that #Andre3000 did an alternative flute album; this is the same kind of freakout people had when Johnny Cash did all those alt song covers. 😂😂
Just tryin’ to put it in perspective for y’all.
I still haven’t listened to it, so don’t spoil it for me
Outkast's André 3000 has made a woodwind album. Why did he turn his back on rap? "I’m 48 years old. And not to say that age is a thing that dictates what you rap about, but in a way it does," he says. "And things that happen in my life, like, what are you talking about? ‘I got to go get a colonoscopy.’ What are you rapping about? ‘My eyesight is going bad.’ You can find cool ways to say it, but….” GQ has all the details.
Geez. I know the planet is going through a thing, because the music releases are absolutely the most earth shattering drops we’ve had in 5/10/20 years.
The new ambient flute/ electronica album by Andre 3000 is the perfect soundtrack to play along with one those coral reef tropical fish streams on YouTube.
@rosanita@BigAngBlack Listening to the new #Andre3000 right now. Think I read a few years ago he was experiencing writer's block. This new record is out of left field.
With the simultaneous release of the Complete Bob Dylan Budokan 1978 and André 3000’s New Blue Sun, one thing is for sure; Huge day for flutes. Maybe the biggest day for flutes yet.
The new episode of #HitParade is all about Outkast and the evolution of Atlanta hip-hop. Great stuff. Not yet up on the web site, but this is where you'll find it: https://slate.com/podcasts/hit-parade
