Am just watching episode 5 of "Under the Skin" 🌸 I usually don't really watch crime shows but this one is working for me. Besides the central relationship between the policeman and the forensic artist, the crime stories have underlying themes and the reveals are surprising. The one in episode 5 is definitely unexpected.

What are the top 3 favourite c-dramas that you watched this year? Let's go

My favourites are Meet Yourself 去有风的地方,There Will Be Ample Time 故乡,别来无恙, and Once Upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain 从前有座灵剑山 (this is an old one but didn't get to it until now).

I need to go and see what historical/wuxia/xianxia dramas i missed from this year

Watching Cheng Yi as the nerdy judge in Draw the Line and then watching him as the swordsmaster Li Xiang Yi in will give you massive whiplash, guaranteed. I mean, I totally know this is the whole point of acting, but he just looks. SO. NORMAL. in lol.
Anwyay, Cheng Yi is one of the very few actors who does convincing and balletic fight choreography. I love his fight scenes 😍

A hilariously accurate representation of my taste. Mostly 😆 However, this graph is not 100% accurate as I went on a documenting spree in May last year when I joined Mydramalist and had been watching for some time. In 2023, I watched mostly and they were definitely not romance dramas.
I prefer romances over ones, so I tend to skew there. Also while I tend to pick a show for its fantasy angle rather the romance, but these shows are often are romance focused too.

A #Cdrama that most Chinese folks around the world would know would be Journey to the West (1986).

My dad would tape every episode into VHS and us kids would replay the drama over and over again. It was a sad day when the VHS tapes ended up having mold growing in them, rendering them unwatchable.

Journey to the West is a “shen mo” - a Chinese fantasy genre that revolves around Chinese mythological characters.

Had a hard time deciding what to watch. Had thought I wanted to watch one of the two Sword + Fairy dramas, but they don't appeal. Thought I might re-watch Guardian, but it is so different from the book, I prefer not to muddle my brain. I still have a sense that some big dramas will drop soon so ... I decided on a light, fluffy drama,"Golden House Hidden Love" 🌸 Looks like a cute, ghost-human love story with an adorable height difference.

Would I recommend Three-Body just to anyone? Probably not. However, if you're patient enough to sit through a few slow patches, you will be highly rewarded.
And watch this before the #Netflix one.

I realised something recently - why I avoid shows such The Glory and palace harem dramas.
Bullying. There's so much bullying in them.

And because I suffered from a lot of bullying in different periods of my life, I do not like being reminded of it nor do I enjoy watching people suffer from it. It's stressful!

Revenge dramas however, are a favourite. I wonder why. Bwhaha.

Currently watching this drama, & I love it. There are assassins, imperial guards and a princess! The image makes it look like a light-hearted comedy - it is, but it is more than that.

I love folks in the Fediverse.
In other fan places people insist you must not "spread negativity" by saying negative things about a show or actor. I have even been warned not to post "things like this" or "you get what you deserve".
If I don't like a show I will very well say it. And if I think an actor's performance needs work, I will state it without prejudice.
I rarely do this, but I find fandom gatekeeping annoying & am so glad it doesn't happen here.

This is LITERALLY the best way to summarise the first four episodes of the 😆
But anyway, am enjoying it even if I feel like, WTF IS GOIN' ON WITH THE NUMBERS AND THE PHYSICS
After a lifetime of sci-fi from a Western perspective, it's really fascinating to see one from a Chinese one, and this is like hard at that!

was one of the best wuxias to come out in a long time. It may look like an over-the-top fantasy video game, but its story is solid.

What I love about is that it shows countries around the world working together with China to defeat this threat. They are all equals in this conflict. There was a conversation between our main lead with one of the leaders of a European nation which I found moving. It showed that they were both humans with loved ones to protect.
I have real worries that Netflix adaptation would forgo this cooperative element and paint some countries as baddies.

Maybe no one should be surprised, but I'm currently watching because I just enjoyed Fang Yilun's performance so much in . I'm up to episode 5 and I love it - sweet, light, fluffy. An enemies to lovers story done well. Much needed after the dark depths we had to go to in AJTL. Fang Yilun is a great actor and I'm happy to discover him this year alongside Cheng Yi and Liu Xueyi.

Tonight's recommendation: "Visitors Are Not Worried, Vajra Body Is Immortal" by CORSAK.

This song starts with 黄杨扁担, a folksong from Chongqing, then becomes a rock/metal jam with a dash of Peking opera at the end.

Also an OST of the hit

Have just started watching "Love Me, Love My Voice" 🌸 I needed a light, romantic drama after some heavy dramas. It is already very sweet without too many ridiculous tropes so far.

I don't know if this is common in most Chinese families but in my family, my siblings address me as 大姐 (da jie or in Hokkien, tua chee), which literally means "eldest sister". Meanwhile I have the privilege of addressing them by name.
This feels very historical to me haha

Wow, this weekend's episodes 29 and 30 of the for the were SO GOOD. The action scenes in ep 30 were exciting and fun to watch, and only slightly reminiscent of the classic 1960s live-action Batman and Robin TV series.

Hopefully non-spoilery image below. I had to watch this whole scene multiple times, it was so good.
