I got a table saw and have started to experiment with box joints!

Next, finger joints!

I may end up making a new chess board...

This book nook kit was a very thoughtful Christmas present from my husband, who has just had to put up with several days of assembling, glueing and swearing as a consequence. There’s some fantastic detail in here, though it’s probably best to not look too closely at some of the edges!

I'm painting a of a cliffscape from my adventuring along coastal paths at the moment, and I'm intending to do a fair bit on it over the festive period, so I thought I would share it. If you're or something, I'd love you the and share it with me!

I'm going to be posting progress as I work on it, both by brush & sponges, using 250 ml Dulux sample tins (of which I have quite a few!).

Here's the basic grey underpainting that I photographed on 30 November - it's an imaginary landscape btw inspired by a lot of my favourite places.

Another non crochet post for now, as I'm still working on something. I like to draw. However, sometimes my imagination fails me 🤔 My small person found a few YT tutorials, and we followed for fun. Here are 2 I tried out.

Shaded pencil drawing of a dragons head and neck, on paper. Dragon is looking to the left.

Crochet teapot purse complete! I could probably add more detail but I'm actually happy with it. More stuff may get added as I see how it works during use.

I almost completely free styled this. I started with an amigurumi potted plant base and I used a pattern for the roses I found online but the rest I kind of made up as I went. I'm really happy with the outcome. On the next one I want to figure out a way to make the lid more sturdy and I need to find a better leaf pattern but overall I like how this turned out.

While I finish my current crochet make, here is another craft I dabble in. I received a beautiful watercolour set for my birthday this year, so I have been playing around to learn. These are 2 of my favourite dabbles so far.

Occasionally, I dabble in other creative things. Over the years, I have made a few Nappy Cakes for expectant friends. This was one of my favourites

Phase I of my “rain” tent project is done - the framing.

My first thought was “aluminum tent poles,” but they snapped when I tried to bend them. Then I considered using the raw materials - steel tubing, but what do I know about bending steel properly?

I landed on PVC, which can be bent after a bath in boiling water.

I also iterated on mounting methods, eventually deciding to drill right into the monkey bars.

On to canopy construction, already in progress!

My dinning room table in ordered chaos with two sections of white pvc bent in a slight arc with T-joints on either end of them.
The same table from image two, with chaos pushed to one end and one of two pvc side structures on an art board in the process of being cemented together. It is four pieces connected with three pvc joints. On the floor is its completed mirror image.
The completed pvc tent frame mounted to the handlebars that go around the child seating area. The frame has curves in front and back, but will extend about two feet above the child handlebars. There are two cross-supports that connect the two side-frame pieces.

Crafters:

I just discovered a Canadian source for Sizzix-quality embossing and die-cutting machines. Prices for Vevor are half that of Sizzix on amazon.ca, and even less on vevor.ca ... currently with free shipping! (These are heavy suckers).

I have a Sizzix Bigshot and my 6" Vevor compares well for weight, quality, materials. Metal moving parts 👍 for one thing.

Let me lead you into temptation bwahahahaha

One project I've never completed as I can't face putting it together 🫣 It was intended as a maternity gift for a colleague, but I ended up getting them something else. One day, I may finish it or turn it into something else, but I'm just not sure when. Each square is c2c moss stitch. On another note, what it sits on is the first thing I ever made. Over 13yrs ago, I made a rug out of chunky wool in a basket weave for my first home.

I made this hooded crochet scarf for myself a while ago. I personally love it and love to wear it, but it's a bit of a marmite make. Some people love it, others, not so much 🤷‍♀️ I like it so I wear it for me

My favourite make ever! A Textured Virus blanket in Stylecraft Batik Swirl - Poppy Field, with added corner tassels. Although it took me months, it was worth it and enjoyable to work on. This now proudly sits in my living room

A textured virus blanket folded into a smaller square with the corner tassels at the bottom of the picture. The blanket is in greens, creams, golds, and pinks, with deep green tassels held together by gold yarn. It is lying on a white bedspread with a deep orange textured cushion in the top left corner of the photo.

As my escape from our current dystopia, I made some more bracelets (for those new to my feed, this is one of the ways I stay mentally balanced through all the news). Here's a pic of my latest.

I'm not one for "New Year's resolutions", but I am one for overly ambitious projects.

For 2023, Project365 is "One New Game Per Day".

Given that I have 634 unplayed games in my Steam account and {mumble} unredeemed bundle Steam keys, there's a reason my unplayed collection is tagged "Pile of Shame".

I'll pin this to my profile, and give a brief summary here each day (or x, if I miss x days due to work or stuff).

I'll play 15-30 minutes of (at least) one new game I've never played before (or played less than 15 minutes of). I'll give every game at least 15 minutes, even if I hate every minute of it.

I'm also open to suggestions; if you reply to this thread with a game, I'll schedule it, or tell you what I thought of it.

One of the things that's come up is that I have a bunch of games that I've played once, and not touched again.

Unplayed games:
Trying a game again:
Going live on Twitch:

I'll hashtag these with so you can mute it if you're not interested.

December 26, 2023 - Day 359 - NewPlay Review
Total NewPlays: 383

Game: Niffelheim

Platform: Steam
Release Date: Sep 26, 2018
Installation Date: Dec 26, 2023
Unplayed: 0d
Playtime: 45m

Niffelheim is a Norse-themed 2D survival crafting game with some RPG elements.

As part of my two remaining goals of attempting to review 400 new games by the end of the year, and to get my unredeemed keys list down to under 200 (current count: 201 left), I had no idea what this key was actually for.

At some stage I'd overtyped the title without noticing. Niffelheim it is.

The game opens up with a Viking funeral boat, aflame and disappearing into the mist, while a narrator intones about how my boat has been hijacked on the way to Valhalla.

I then found myself at a character selection screen with a choice between three burly male warriors, and a well-endowed Valkyrie.

My Valkyrie then found herself armed with some basic weapons, and a basic hut, and a series of quests delivered by a raven.

Other than that, you're in pretty standard survival game mechanics; kill things, cut down trees, gather food. The 2D aspect makes playing with a controller natural, and before I noticed, I'd been in-game for 45 minutes.

I found Niffelheim strangely compelling, so let's say that it's:
