I'm rewatching #Deadloch and it's even funnier the second time. While it clearly has very specific Australian cultural touchstones, if you're from any small town in the Western world, it still feels very familiar. You've known people like this. The clash of modern sensibilities and conservative small town mentality will resonate with people, even if they aren't from Australia. It's also a great #murdermystery with clever twists and turns. I hope a second series happens.
Watching the last episode of #Deadloch tonight on Prime. How is it so dark but so funny! Queer Australian crime mystery. I am only one step ahead of the detectives but have no idea who did it.
Entertainment Weekly has selected its top 10 TV shows of 2023, which include "Reservation Dogs," "I'm a Virgo" and "Succession." The magazine has also chosen three duds, one of which is "rehashed IP," (reboots of "Fatal Attraction," "Frasier" and the like). Here's the full list. Which is your favorite? Tell us in the comments if you think there are any egregious omissions.
Ghosts (UK not the dreadful US version, Season 4) [BBC]
Star Trek Strange New Worlds (Season 2) [Paramount]
What we do in the Shadows (season 5) [FX]
Staged (Season 3) [BBC]
Honourable mention:
Babylon Berlin (Season 4, German) [Netflix] - technically end of 2022, but I didn't season 4 had been released until this year. Outstanding noir, set between the wars.
I finished #Deadloch last week and immediately restarted it with my husband. Beyond its superb, hilarious writing, phenomenal acting and characters, I've never seen a show that so perfectly captures the relentless frustration of being a competent woman in a male-dominated space. It's a million little tiny details that are obvious to you, that get your hackles up, that tell you to stop and think and pay attention, and that every dude around you dismisses out of hand.
We're checking out #TheGreatKiwiBakeOff, starting with season 1 and I IMMEDIATELY recognized Madeleine Sami (aka Eddie Radcliffe from #Deadloch). I had no idea she was one of the hosts (at least on this first season).
I finished my rewatch of #deadloch and I want to watch it again already. There hasn't been a show that has made me laugh so much while taking me along a super interesting mystery.
The only problem is that I am now deeply uninterested in finishing season 2 of The Afterparty and not super excited about season 3 of Only Murders In The Building
Took out the Amazon Prime subscription to watch #GoodOmens2 (which was just as great as expected) then thought I'd take the opportunity to watch #Deadloch and gosh this is such a brilliant little show.
Such a perfect subversion of the genre and so so funny.
I cannot emphasize strongly enough how much I LOVE #Deadloch. Strong, quirky female characters and a brilliant storyline.
Be warned, the language is… er…. ‘creative’ 😂. I’ve never felt comfortable with the C word but after the first couple of episodes I’m now truly desensitised. (The swearing is very appropriate for the storytelling).
Not just a ‘chick’ programme either - the Mr loved it too.
I’m hoping for a second season, but if this is all we get, I’ll be content to watch again.
Intro post for my #pirate friends:
I've been around the #fandom world for a long time. Current obsessions are #ofmd and #deadloch. My major creative contributions are in #podfic, though I've also been known to knock out a #fanfic and #fanart or two. Looking to reconnect with my twt peeps and find some cool new fandom friends here. A03/other links in my profile.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm too sweary for my American compatriots on the Fediverse... then I realise if they didn't want to see a "cunt" in their feed every so often, they wouldn't be following an Aussie
@lilstevie@sortius My favourite of late was how for #Deadloch to get the go-ahead, the Kates had to provide Amazon an essay detailing why “cunt” was an acceptable – and important – word for Australians to use.
