People often talk about Emacs vs Vim. Every developer I’ve met uses Vim. Occasionally, some of the vim users will say they have previously emacs, but switched to vim.
So where are all the people who are currently using Emacs?
I’m not trolling or looking for an argument. I legit want to know!
Inspired by @howard 's recent post sharing his #elfeed configuration, I'm sharing mine. Elfeed is a powerful RSS feed reader for #emacs with a number of hooks to customize it.
I have an org file for a long-running project. It's getting hard to manage because there are lots of different tasks, events, etc.
I think I want to create an "archive version" of that file, which would have the same structure but store items, say, with a timestamp older than 2 months. That would require two basic steps:
extracting a subtree from the original file;
merging the extracted subtree into the archived version.
I could implement that, but I wonder if there is any existing way for that? Or some other approach that would address the same issue?
Thanks Amy @grinn for pointing me to the necessary pieces of org-refile! It would have taken much longer to figure out otherwise.
I've made a function that org-refiles the entry at point into "archive/<file-name>.org", preserving the header structure. I only had to implement creating nonexistent headers because `org-refile' can create just one level out-of-the-box.
And another function that performs that operation on all entries found by `org-ql'.
Question for evil-mode expatriates. Is there any benefit to disabling the Escape key? I can't seem to break the habit of mashing Esc every ten seconds and I'd like for it to just do nothing. I assume I can just unbind the key?
#Emacs is all knobs and buttons and switches and dials and levers and gauges and sliders and toggles and cranks and valves and regulators and adjusters and controllers and indicators and foot pedals and...
@mykhaylo I had #rust installed already, so this was ok. The #emacs integration with jet through the jet emacs packages looks great. But jet does not seem to support toml? I have to admit I have never heard of edn?
Scratching my head at an Emacs issue: Elfeed-org doesn’t seem to load my feeds. I’m not sure why, everything looks OK. I have my feeds.org and I have the path defined in rmh-elfeed-org-files and it does show the value it’s supposed to have.
After a few weeks on #linuxmint, I have to say I'm loving the experience. And I'm probably their target audience. Longtime Microsoftie. I don't hate Windows, and I've gotten used to it all through the versions and find it easy to use. However, there's something fresh about the LM experience. And #emacs just runs fast. I'm def sticking around for a while.
Does anyone know how I can disable certain warnings/errors while using treesitter (treesit package) in :emacs: #Emacs? I'm getting warning about indentation with 2 spaces where I like to have 4 spaces for indentation.
Hewwo, I'm Luna! :nkoLove: and am new to Fediverse. I'm a housecat-fox hybrid #furry :blobcat_nwn: :collar: :blobcatpats:. You can just call me Luna or Floof.
I'm a #trans#nonbinary :heart_transgender: and my pronouns are she/they/it.
I also find smol animals like cats, domesticated rats, pigeons and guinea pigs to be super adorable :ablobcathappypaws:.
My hobbies are #programming#haskell, #rust and #python casually :blobfoxcomputer: and playing Stardew Valley, Skyrim, CDDA and Widelands. Occasionally I read epic fantasy, romantic or horror novels whenever I feel cozy :blabcat:. My knowledge in these aren't deep though :blobcatgiggle:.
I mostly will be using Fediverse to share about my own journey on programming, sharing (boosting?) furry or cute arts and my own random (cat? meow?) thoughts in general.
On that note, I refrain from sharing suggestive content on my page and whenever I do, they will be tagged & marked with NSFW content warnings.
okay, in my attempt to do more in terms of get something out of Mastodon, i'm going to do more hashtagging and more posting about things and interacting with others who post about things.
i'm starting to learn #Emacs and working on #SelfHosting some things, like a Plex server, a Calibre server, and etc. Any other #SelfHosters have any recommendations? i'm also considering Mealie.
"I hope you don’t mind me asking but what keeps you coming back to #Emacs? I am currently wondering whether to look at #Neovim again - it does seem to be faster and with a strong community around it."
Almost thought I had a good way to move #org documents into #confluance from converting them into #html. They used to have a built in HTML renderer but I suppose they couldn't fix it on the cloud and disabled it. Too bad all the html rendering apps from the marketplace are priced WAY too high for what they offer. Guess I'll have to stick with exporting to #markdown for now.
