I was recently testing @postmarketOS but I found it slow and hard to use on my phone.
Few years ago I had really good experience with #firefoxOs
I have found @capyloon that is fork of Mozilla mobile system.
It's there any way to install #capyloon on #postmarketos ?
@noiq Personally, I think that #FirefoxOS was good per very concept.
It just so happened that @mozilla really #kneecapped it for no good reason.
People like @fuchsiii would've loved to #develop for it, but since she - and everyone else I alredy knew back then - couldn't get one officially ( or only through #scalpers and #importers that at best overcharged for the device and most likely shoved some #malware on it like it's commonplace with #ChinaImports of #Android-Devices [ask me how I know]).
Not a gamer and only recently diving into mobile, I don't know the history of either #PSvita or #FirefoxOS
But I like open platforms and it seemed that FirefoxOS webapps offered the most open app environment possible. It seemed to me at the time that Mozilla lost their nerve and decided to pitch to India and not US or EU.
Back in the day, I felt Firefox OS was brilliant, way ahead of its time, and abandoned far too soon. But now a rebirth has happened thanks to @capyloon and it looks exciting. Exciting enough that I might have to see if I can contribute. Check it out.
@mattwilcox positives and negatives. Commercially, #FirefoxOS was not a success. It should have been Mozilla's opportunity to remain relevant to the modern web and modern web users. When it wasn't immediately successful, Mozilla unfortunately went for a scorched earth policy. On the positives side, a lot of learnings came out of that work that were plowed into the work on progressive web apps, the webapp manifest, service worker, notifications, etc... FirefoxOS continues to reverberate.
The story:
Do you remember back in the days when #Apple installed the suicide nets in "their" factories?
That's when I decided I'll no longer buy any Apple products.
When my iPhone died I looked around for a more sustainable and/or free (as in freedom) option.
So I stumbled upon Fairphone and bought the #FP1 or rather the #FP1u.
Soon afterwards I joined the first Fairphone meeting that took place in Vienna, Austria and we founded the @AustrianFairphoners.
So I joined the Fairphone community on Dec 9, '14 and it was like a family for me for a long time.
In 2018 I was actually introduced to the #Fediverse via the Fairphone forum.
In 2019 I joined #FridaysForFuture and ever since, I'm less active with Fairphone, but I would still never buy another phone and if I get the chance to help setup a Fediverse instance for Fairphone of course I will take it. 🙂
Who else owns a Fairphone here? I'd love to read your Fairphone origin stories. 😉
