Hello!

noam, to community

Welcome to the fediverse ! If you mention @fedpagan in your post / toot, it will be shared to everyone who follows the forum. A bit like a hashtag. 😎

There should be a way to post only to the forum and not the rest of the fediverse, but I haven't worked that out yet.

Got to call in to this AM and plug Glen Park Canyon as an ideal SF picnic spot.

The upside of a long-ish driving commute is you can be one of those rando callers on the local affiliate show.

It would be awesome if could one day take comments for the live show via as well as Twitter and via email.

As it turns out, a lot of verbs and objects correspond quite nicely with verbs and objects (e.g. a like would be an upvote, etc.)

However I'm not exactly sure how the "announce" verb would translate. In , "announce" is a "boost". The closest forum-land equivalent would be the "bump", whereby a topic is brought back to the top of the list (usually through a reply).

Only downside, bumps are reserved for admins. Non-admins "bump" a topic by replying to it.

Some important history though... A bump is gated behind a reply because a reply-less bump would certainly be abused by non-privileged users to continually keep their topic at the top of the list. At least with a reply, there is a social stigma (depending on house rules) against continual bumping.

One wonders how handles it... I'm able to un-boost a post and re-boost, which actually works. I suppose nothing stops me from re-boosting the same post forever?

My is now online. I'm a little nervous about what's going to happen now... but here it is!
I hope I've set everything up correctly!

I've written an overly-long blog post about the results of last week's survey. Make yourself a cuppa, and have a read, and see what you think. I'd be really interested in your thoughts!

I've been toying with the idea of creating a as a sort of central hub for UK retro folks. I made a little survey here - please fill it in, it would be helpful to know what people would want out of such a service.

Thanks! (Please boost, too - the more, the merrier!)

This ancient city was commercially developed in the first century by colonial olive producers. By the end of the 4th century it had separated from the and collapsed, perhaps by earthquake; abandoned in the 11th century after it became a Muslim dynastic center.

As former Community Manager of Diaspora, @deadsuperhero has important insights on ActivityPub vs. AT protocol.

Diaspora was once the most widely adopted platform on the Fediverse. At one point, it had 500,000 accounts.

But Diaspora refused to adopt ActivityPub. As a result, they’re a ghost of their former selves.

That could happen to Mastodon. Bluesky too.

That is, if protocol adoption doesn’t diversify across apps.

@devnull @atomicpoet @deadsuperhero @fediversenews integration in software is non-existant at current, but definitely would be interested in joining or forming a WG for it.

@fediverse What type of social media do you feel is lacking most in the fediverse?

To elaborate, there are a lot of different types of social media already on the fediverse such as microblogs, regular blogs, image sharing, link sharing and video sharing.

Personally, I'd love to see a gaming-focused social media platform on the fediverse.

A federated software. But most likely there are a couple in the works. There's The Pavilion cooperative working on a plugin for and some time ago a maintainer told me they are working on adding support too. And there's which has forum-like aspects.
