There should be a way to post only to the forum and not the rest of the fediverse, but I haven't worked that out yet.
As it turns out, a lot of #ActivityPub verbs and objects correspond quite nicely with #nodebb verbs and objects (e.g. a like would be an upvote, etc.)
However I'm not exactly sure how the "announce" verb would translate. In #Mastodon, "announce" is a "boost". The closest forum-land equivalent would be the "bump", whereby a topic is brought back to the top of the list (usually through a reply).
Only downside, bumps are reserved for admins. Non-admins "bump" a topic by replying to it.
Some important history though... A #forum bump is gated behind a reply because a reply-less bump would certainly be abused by non-privileged users to continually keep their topic at the top of the list. At least with a reply, there is a social stigma (depending on house rules) against continual bumping.
One wonders how #Mastodon handles it... I'm able to un-boost a post and re-boost, which actually works. I suppose nothing stops me from re-boosting the same post forever?

I've been toying with the idea of creating a #forum as a sort of central hub for UK retro folks. I made a little survey here - please fill it in, it would be helpful to know what people would want out of such a service.

@fediverse What type of social media do you feel is lacking most in the fediverse?
To elaborate, there are a lot of different types of social media already on the fediverse such as microblogs, regular blogs, image sharing, link sharing and video sharing.
Personally, I'd love to see a gaming-focused social media platform on the fediverse.
A federated #forum software. But most likely there are a couple in the works. There's The Pavilion cooperative working on a plugin for #Discourse and some time ago a #Flarum maintainer told me they are working on adding #ActivityPub support too. And there's #LemmyBB which has forum-like aspects.
