@fisch Download the theme from the GitHub page, extract it, then follow the README to install. The option you are looking for is “—tweaks float.” (Really wish #fosstodon supported basic markdown)
And in other words: as far as I can tell, I enjoy Calckey a lot more than vanilla Masto.
-however- my social graph is a lot nicer on this account (yes I know I could migrate it, don't care to); not to mention the overall local timeline for Fosstodon is a lot more lively than the calckey instance I was on.
Definitely prefer Calckey's UX and options. Much better overall as an ActivityPub frontend.
But it's hard to prefer it as a daily driver if it feels like I'm watching tumbleweeds roll past.

#Shutter is a feature-rich screenshot program. You can take a screenshot of a specific area, window, your whole screen, or even of a website – apply different effects to it, draw on it to highlight points, and then upload to an image hosting site, all within one window.
Is there a rationale, or a conscious reason behind the fact, that when I go to fosstodon.org without being logged in, the default page is "Explore" (federated feed) instead of "Local"?
Personally, when I go to any #fediverse instance website directly, what I want to see is what people of that specific instance is posting (that's why I go to the URL directly)
Am I weird? Do others prefer to see the federated feed?
I'm pondering what instance to migrate to. Any advice? Afaik the main thing to look out for is that I agree with the server rules and that there is a reasonably sized modertion team. What else is important?
Moved my account from #fosstodon to .social.
I like being in a general instance where I can also post on my native language: greek.

Are there any not-shit Linux phones and tablets? I will seriously pay 2x for the same specs as a flagship from a major Android-based brand. #linuxdevices #askfoss#asklibre
@Anachron@frameworkcomputer@Fairphone@travisfw I should mention that I tried to visit the profile of @frameworkcomputer but got blocked b/c they are in the walled garden of #Fosstodon, which now ironically pushes a non-free javascript CAPTCHA on some people. I suggest migrating from #Fosstodon to floss.social, which is openly accessible to all & without requiring people to run non-free js CAPTCHAs.
@kev@mike When will #Fosstodon be taken off #Cloudflare? It seems like the DDoS attacks have gone away and you didn’t really want to put Fosstodon behind Cloudflare in the first place.
So, correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m going to go out here on a limb and say that it seems to me that the majority of good faith #bsky criticism of the vibe on mastodon, calling it “stuffy” and “no fun”, comes from people who joined mastodon.social, after complaining loudly that there was no default instance to quickly onboard people to the new service.
So like, the irony, I guess, is what hit me this morning.
What I know for sure is that I’m happy to have found #Fosstodon and the community here, and I’m very thankful to @mike and @kev and the whole moderation team for making MY mastodon onboarding experience one of the highlights of my year. I think you’ve done something right here.
@spaceraser@mike@kev I chose #Fosstodon initially because I do build open source, research software. But I mostly post about my radio program, societal issues and photography, so I have wondered if I'm supposed to relocate. But I contribute my $8/month and love it here.
@amoroso@spaceraser@fullyabstract@mike@kev Indeed. But that’s a problem for #Fosstodon. Fosstodon is forcing people to execute non-free software, so they’re a bit falsely positioned. Fosstodon /users/ are not necessarily hypocritical, since it’s somewhat normal for a FOSS dev/user to also be a user or dev of proprietary software. But the fosstodon instance itself should not be forcing people to run non-free software.

App Number 19: trash-cli - Move files and folders to the trash from the command line
#Trashcli is a handy little app! Alias rm=trash in your .zshrc / .bashrc and protect yourself from yourself!
Nearly a decade ago, we saw signs saying maybe social media wasn't the answer to interconnecting humanity. We looked back and found that many forums of yesteryear were not only still kicking, but kicking ass. We decided it was time to bring forums to the next decade, and beyond 🚀.

App Number 18: How2 - AI for your Terminal
#How2 uses AI models to suggest shell commands in your Terminal. It's like using man, but with specific results. It uses a mix of AI code-completion and StackOverflow search.
You get five free queries a day, while $9/month gets you 100.

App Number 17: kinto - Mac-style shortcut keys for Linux & Windows
As a reformed #macOS user, I still have the muscle memory of using the ⌘ key instead of CTRL for common keyboard shorts. #kinto allows me to keep using my ⌘ key on my MacBook in Linux!
@Wuzzy I must say when I tried to visit your post in a GUI browser, Fosstodon tried to force me to run #nonfreesoftware by pushing a nonfree JavaScript CAPTCHA. I assume you’re unaware of that because it’s a glaring #hypocrisy on the part of the #Fosstodon admin. Anyway, I appreciate the feedback. Though I’m struggling to envision improvements on the essay from that feedback.
