During the break, I spotted a familiar face in the courtroom: It's Grant Rood, one of the prosecutors who works on #Trump's racketeering case in Fulton County, #Georgia.
"Georgian MPs approved controversial plans to brand hundreds of NGOs and media outlets as foreign agents on Tuesday, paving the way for the bill to become law despite growing domestic dissent and condemnation from the U.S. and EU."
Reminder: this law mandates that newsrooms & NGOs with more than 20% of their funding coming from outside the country declare themselves "foreign agents".
There have been constant protests, police brutality and intimidation.
The Georgian parliament approved a divisive "foreign influence" bill that sparked weeks of mass protests.
@dw reports: "Critics have called it a threat to domestic freedoms and the country's aspirations to join the European Union. They have also drawn comparisons with comparable rules introduced in Russia in recent years."
What's now happening in #Georgia is absolutely a replay of what was happening there and in #Ukraine in 2004, in #Moldova 2009, #Belarus in 2006 and again in 2020, in Ukraine again in 2014, and so on. The people are demanding their right to be heard, and a putin-backed oligarch is using force to subdue them. We used to call these color revolutions.
