I feel this quest line will end in a fight. My hands want rest... There's no way to save it... So I have to continue and finish it.
Horizon I do love you but dammit, we needed save as it is, not only save here or there... 😔
Wish I had a player two who could take over and do this fight I feel is coming...
Anyone on PS5 with PS+ able to jump in and do the fight in Death's Door?
Hope I can manage...

So, since is coming to PC "early next year", I guess I ought to look into upgrading my PC in January. I doubt my GeForce GTX 1080 is going to cut it.

Also, I'll buy the biggest SSD I can find. It's amazing how quickly disk space fills up...

in with 120 Hz Output and VRR enabled is absurd. Level of detail takes a hit, but it’s sooo smooothhh, geez

@danhon I would guess that and sound pretty good in Atmos as well. Hopefully Part 1 too? I feel like there have only been a handful of truly exceptional audio productions on thus far

Just loaded up can “eh” quality YouTube upload of my own playthrough, and damn, it’s astonishing how good it looks in motion at 60 FPS or higher 🤯🤩

“Solace Beneath The Stars” by Oleksa Lozowchuk is still my pick for favorite soundtrack from . Really communicates a lot about the setting and the main character, Aloy. https://youtu.be/T4MXYEaUP5Y

There are moments when the music in this game led me to role-play Aloy stopping dead in her tracks to take in the sunset. The soundtrack is that engrossing.

jkohlmann,
@jkohlmann@mastodon.social avatar

The thing is that the soundtrack is designed to reflect how Aloy feels at any given moment, so you get to know Aloy emotionally through the music. There’s a lot of compassion and wistfulness there, which resonates deeply with me.

I EQ’d all my headphones with https://autoeq.app and, uh, they sound even better than they did before. Even the third-generation AirPods!

Yeah, this setup sounds great:

• M2 MacBook Air 13-inch
• Sennheiser HD 6XX wired, open back headphones
• SoundSource + Headphone EQ presets from https://autoeq.app
• Ghz CanOpener Studio 3 + “Lifelike” crossfeed preset
• Currently listening to: the soundtrack

Approximately when I fell in love with the in-game soundtrack implementation: https://youtube.com/watch?t=43m42s

Pretty early on, actually, but this is ridiculous: there are multiple, dynamic layer and track transitions that occur in this short segment of gameplay. Brilliant audio design if you ask me.

Kind of what to play #HorizonForbiddenWest #PS5 again. The beautiful natural environments still captivate me in my mind’s eye.

jkohlmann,
@jkohlmann@mastodon.social avatar

I started #HorizonForbiddenWest #PS5 nearly a year ago, and I think I was playing #HorizonZeroDawn around this time last year. I remember the jank from the first game (Guerrilla got a lot better with character animations), but I also remember the palpable sense of place. Beautiful games.

jkohlmann,
@jkohlmann@mastodon.social avatar

I also still feel like #HorizonForbiddenWest #PS5 did exactly enough with the main protagonists, the Zeniths. I felt like it was lacking early on, but later, and now, I feel like they fleshed them out exactly as much as they needed. Further, they didn’t fall into the pit of trying to humanize violent, destructive, world-conquering billionaires. There’s a wisdom and economy to these characterizations that still impresses me.

A standout from the soundtrack: “Rusted Sands”. Oleksa Lozowchuk’s melodic compositions really shine here https://youtu.be/-85gLLR4Xn4

jkohlmann,
@jkohlmann@mastodon.social avatar

The composers really outdid themselves with the soundtrack and its implementation though. They’ve spoken about how they want the music and supporting systems to convey how the protagonist Aloy is feeling, so while there is a sense of place, there is really this emotional center that feels unique. https://youtu.be/oK1mA4RPin0

jkohlmann,
@jkohlmann@mastodon.social avatar

(Lmao, I also want to replay itself at some point. The soundtrack release is great, but the in-game implementation is transcendent, if occasionally and necessarily crowded due to sound effects.)

@jkohlmann@mastodon.social avatar

Oh, I also want to play the whole game on Ultra Hard difficulty. I switched to Ultra Hard in the post-game and played : Burning Shores entirely on that difficulty, and even then I’m like, “more please!!!” 😂

It’s done! I started this Clawstrider at the beginning of the month, and finished just before midnight last night.

I didn’t work on it every night, but more than half. It’s ~7100 pieces, and probably took ~100 hours to assemble.

The instructions were … not amazing, and the kit was missing 10-20 specific pieces. It’s also fragile AF. Can’t really recommend it unless you are ready for frustration.

This shot is the reverse of the previous: still along the left side, but this time close to the tail, as the robot faces away from the camera. From this angle, you can see the wide fan of the blades along each side of the tail. The tail is articulated several times, with breaks in the armor plates, before it joins with the torso. Here, the grass obscures the hips and hind legs. Orange and yellow rips highlight the blade feathers, and almost blend into the golden grass.
A close-up of the head of the robot, in profile. The cerrated teeth stand out, while the strip of black chainsaw teeth are almost invisible in the shadow. This close, you can clearly see the grey tubes which run from the nose, back along the head, disappearing between the twin sprays of feather-blades down to the neck. Again here, the yellow and orange highlights here and there blend in well with the grass, while the otherwise glowing white armor plates stand out.
A wider profile shot, showing the robot from nose to elbows. This shows off how the feather-blades start at the top of the head, and continue down the neck, shoulders, arms, and down to the forearms. Those blades gain sharp yellow-orange tips as they cross the shoulders. Small claws tip each hand … until you look closer and see a collection of long black knife talons curled under and hiding below.
