"Filmed by his supporters, Falter made a big show of his desire to cross the march at a location where he knew the police were likely to object....Falter, of course, did not actually want to cross the street. He wanted to be filmed being stopped from crossing, so he could protest that he was being victimised as a Jew. The police duly obliged"
Some updates from today's Palestine protests. First up: the people of Tunbridge Wells - the definition of Toryshire - outside Barclays Bank, demanding the bank divests from all companies supplying weapons to Israel, used in its assault on Palestinians. #CeasefireNow#StopArmingIsrael#MarchForPalestine
Israeli Government spokesman Eylon Levi on the other place, writing above a clip of yesterday's march in London:
"I don’t think London has ever seen such a large demonstration of rape apologists before." #StopArmingIsrael#MarchForPalestine#CeasefireNow#GazaGenocide
Walking down the side streets, away from the main pro-Palestine protest, I found a huge number of police officers intent on clearing a pub where the far-right had been gathering. A slightly bemused public were being kept at a safe distance.
Good luck and solidarity to everyone around the world, marching today for a ceasefire and peace in Israel and Palestine. Especially good luck to those gathering in London, after our Home Secretary incited far right thugs to attack the march. #Israel#Palestine#Gaza#London #NationalMarchForPalestine#CeasefireNow
"Jack Rawlinson, 64, a train driver in London, said his participation was motivated in no small part by the government’s attempts to ban it.
“Our home secretary’s attempt to characterise [these demonstrations] as ‘hate marches’, and to associate a clear call for peace and an end to indiscriminate bloodshed with sympathy for terrorism … is despicable, and it is what will get this 64-year-old out on the street for the first time in decades,” Rawlinson said" #Israel#Palestine#MarchForPalestine
REMINDER: Anyone attending the London march on Saturday, take care when you're taking photographs. Ask permission before posting pictures of people's faces and use pixellating apps. The Metropolitan Police regularly use AFR (Automated Facial Recognition). #UKPolitics#MarchForPalestine#MetPolice
Dal Babu, former Chief Superintendant at the Met, on Braverman this morning:
"Some of the things Suella Braverman is saying, as a brown woman, would not be tolerated if they were said by a white woman... " #UKPolitics#CeasefireNow#MarchForPalestine
