Now released: The DOS Game Jam Demo Disc (2023 Edition). Fresh DOS games curated from recent Itch.io DOS Game Jams (+ some other sources) for your enjoyment: https://thp.io/2024/demodisc/ -- including a fancy menu for easy navigation, and the ISO is bootable (FreeDOS).
As a fan of AmigaVision, do you wish you had an easy way to play DOS games on your MiSTer, but want it to be easy, flexible and not fuss around with DOS driver settings? Check out our new sister project, the just-released 0MHz DOS Collection! https://0mhz.net/2024.03.20#MiSTerFPGA
The standalone #MNTReform keyboard is gorgeous (and satisfyingly dense). I much prefer the clicky white switches over the tactile browns (maybe not in a laptop though).
It's a nice aesthetic match for the #MiSTerFPGA I just started experimenting with. Many thanks to @mntmn and the MNT team for accommodating my request for #Colemak homing keys.
The #Keyboardio Model 100 with Linear A keycaps is in the back. It's also lovely, but not convenient as a roaming keyboard.
TapTo looks cute - it launches games on #MisterFPGA using an NFC reader, so you can make your digital collection a sort-of physical one by printing box art onto small cart-shaped cards and adding an NFC tag. https://github.com/wizzomafizzo/tapto
At some point, I kind of fell out of love with physical media. Whether it was the existence of platforms like #MiSTerFPGA, the hassle of keeping original hardware working and accessible, or just the amount of space that old carts and boxes take up...
Regardless, it's time to box 'em up for a while.
I'm not going as far as to sell them all (been there, done that). But it'll be good get them out of the way and stop them fading away in the sun.
What are your favorite #Amiga games that are not on this list? The Amiga library is so vast, and has so many more great games than than the ones on this Top 1% list of games! #analoguepocket#misterfpga
I picked up an Atari Gamestation at Target on clearance for $30 hoping to use the controllers with MiSTer. Good news - they register. Bad news - so far I can't get the spinner to register. Any pointers?
Been having too much fun getting various software running on 80s and 90s consoles and personal computer systems in cores on a MiSTer FPGA recently.
Retro all the Computering.
The cheesy photos do it a bit of a disservice. The effects are not as fancy as the crazy GPU CRT emulation some modern software emulators have, but it does a fine job approximating an SD composite video experience on a 1080p display.
I’ve not won a single #misterfpga game challenge yet so no - using @polpo ’s #PicoGUS to use a modern joystick in Slordax on my 486 is not considered cheating. It's time to pull my MiSTer FPGA system back out and start using it again. Trying to use the 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4 Controller as an everything controller (and not have to juggle a wireless keyboard) for EmuDeck/Emulation Station/RetroArch has been a clusterduck.
So, giving up on using the Deck as my primary retro all-in-one (as it were). I'm primarily just looking to play 8-bit, 16-bit and early 32-bit systems on the big screen. I can still use my SD OLED for playing on the go.
After fighting for way too long to try to get DHCP reservation to actually work on the MiSTer FPGA with a defined MAC address, I finally just hardcoded the thing in /etc/dhcpcd.conf and put in the DNS settings in /etc/resolv.conf.tail
The 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4 controller just doesn't cut it for retro games as there is no way to map the analog sticks to D-Pad. The location of the D-Pad makes my left thumb ache and the smaller A/B/X/Y buttons aren't great either.
I switched to the wired 8BitDo Pro 2 controller and it's a big step up. I just need to get a wireless version of that controller so don't have to sit so close to the TV.
One of the cool things about playing with home computers on the #MISTerFPGA is that you have to learn how to load games from disk, tape and, occasionally, hard drives in their native form.
On my quest to play the classic games on every system, I'm investigating the Acorn Electron and currently sitting at a command line prompt.
How to load a game on an early 80s, niche, British home PC?
This is a video showing you how to setup Direct-Video on the MiSTer FPGA. Direct Video gives you the ability to use a CRT television through the DE10 Nano’s HDMI port.
Any #MiSTerFPGA users out there using an Elgato Stream Deck to control menus, save states, etc.?
It seems like this should be possible, but I'm not sure if the Stream Deck resembles "any USB keyboard," or if it's "first download and register the Elgato Companion App, create an account and a user profile, then..."
