A long and tough walk for us today to the remote Loch an Nid. I wanted to recon the route as I'd like to use it to visit the munros of Sgurr Ban, Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchar, and maybe include the corbett of Beinn a' Chlaidheimh as well.
I'd walked the track to Lochivraon bothy which was wet and a bit rough but it doesn't really prepare you for what lies afterwards. Despite the peaty wet feet it was a cracking walk into a fantastic place.
Suckin' boot and blawin' soot today. Ben Challum in Glen Dochart, more snow than expected and boggy lower down. Good day out but pity the clag didn't clear for us. Munro no. 67.
First Munro (and hill day) of 2024 - An Socach from Glen Clunie, near Braemar. Munro no. 66. Cool, crisp, clear day. Chased the mist, so clear by the time we got to the summit, but cold wind.
Had a great weekend travelling up to stay a night at the Corrour Youth Hostel on the Caledonian Sleeper. Sleeper was great, hostel was very atmospheric, station cafe was incredible.
Day out in Glen #Strathfarrar, great place to wander without feeling the need to go up some hills (there are two fantastic groups of #Munros, but not today).
Absolutely no signs of flooding - realised it's because the #LochMonar dam protects the top of the glen, and all the side streams have water captured and transferred to the reservoir. So very little gets into the glen itself.
Thanks as usual to #MountaineeringScotland for negotiating vehicle access to the private road. #Scotland#Highlands
I spent the day hiking above Glencoe, much of it in the clouds, but when the clouds cleared it was spectacular. Another two Munro day (Sgorr Dhearg and Sgorr Dhonuill). Bonus points for ending at a pub. #Scotland#hillwalking#munros
Imposing Ben More on the Isle of Mull, complete with its own weather system. This is the only Munro (individual mountain over 3,000ft high) not on the Scottish mainland or the Isle of Skye. More pics and info about the Isle of Mull: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/mull/mull/index.html
Rewriting my #introduction because I didn't get the importance of tagging over here. Apologies if you've seen this before...
I'm retired, which means I'm pretty busy. I volunteer at a charity #bookshop, write occasional reviews for London #Jazz News, write even rarer reviews on my own blog, and take lots of #photographs.
I forgot to mention in my #introduction that I've compleated (sic) the #Munros this year, though I've not been out much since May - I'm very much a fair-weather walker!
