"In 2022, cars killed 7,508 pedestrians, the equivalent of 18 fully-loaded Boeing 747s crashing with zero survivors. That means a pedestrian died roughly every 70 minutes, with no breaks in the tide of fatalities for weekends or holidays."
@haraldkliems@TheWarOnCars Oregon leg. voted but it's currently just a planning activity & we're maintaining the deadly status quo throughout the process. Reluctance to make #busLanes/turn-only the existing curb lanes of all four-lane #stroads (including ones #PBOT fully controls) is the actual hold-up. Cowardly leaders + traffic Engineers afraid to actually change, even though adopted #VisionZero and #ClimateAction plans purport to value safety and mobility over car speed and volume counts.
They just need to put in dozens of these #modalFilter things until the people who want to turn left across a busy intersection and drive two blocks to park for free just give up and walk or ride a bike, golf cart maybe... #PBOT#bollards#pdxBikes
#drivers always have trouble getting traction here. I think #PBOT should close the left turn from Terwilliger that brings them to this spot, but what do I know about #SafeRoutesToSchool etc
We are ashamed our city is working to remove critical #pdxBikes infrastructure already built and spending their valuable resources on this removal over the much needed and overdue work to make our most dangerous streets safer. In the middle of a traffic violence epidemic, in the middle of #PBOT's own budget crisis.
When was the outreach process about the yellow centerline paint and speeding cars? #ClimateCrisis#VisionZero
Of course PBOT is going to immediately launch operation "think about it for a while" after driverists cut down their signs they stuck in the street for telling cars what to do, not like they always send crews out ASAP removing any guerrilla devices that potentially obstruct cars (oh wait...) Department of Letting Cars Boss Us Around here needs a better acronym. #Vision60or70something#PBOT#Portland#transportation#LowTrafficNeighborhoods#CarSupremacy#pdxBikes
#PBOT's "traffic calming" projects are such kid-gloves weaksauce that doesn't pretend to control the kinds of drivers who are actually making our streets feel unsafe. Their machines are 5-7000lb lumps of steel being flung around at 30mph with 400hp and Portland has, after a decade of organizing by neighbors and careful work by professional #trafficEngineers, delivered like a dozen rubber bumps and some paint. #tacticalUrbanism is this stuff but overnight, & then iterate
A man on a bike was killed with a drunk driver here seven years ago next week, and nothing has changed except the paint wearing off. Does #PBOT have no respect for people on #pdxBikes, or do they not know how to do better? #Drivers from Beaverton aren't a force of nature, they're simply a result of choices made by "professional Engineers" (like that lane width 🙄 .) #InducedDemand created by the policy of maintaining extra freeway lanes on our surface streets.
#PBOT's Disaster Ride at 10am Saturday from Irving Park #Portland#DisasterPreparedness information, what if you have to ride #pdxBikes in the rain 😂, and learn about our Neighborhood Emergency Team network.
#Portland let #PBOT know what you think about #SundayParkways car-free streets and be sure to ask why they don't just leave it up or do it every weekend at least.
"Bring your nicest #rakes, #hoes, #shovels and other garden implements and show them off as we take a leisurely and SAFE tour of the new #bicycle and #bus infrastructure on SE #Division st @ 112 Ave in #Portland on Friday June 30th from 2-6pm!"
#pdxtraffic backed up on Terwilliger because some drivers broke a traffic signal and #pbot doesn't know how to detour traffic at an earlier point that would handle the volume 🙄
Steel Bridge lower deck closure 7am-6pm starting Monday #pdxBikes, thru Friday the 22nd - You can take the upper deck "Bikes May Use Full Lane" or narrow sidewalk, or your next two closest bridges are Broadway and Burnside (via stairs only, if you're on the eastbank esplanade) #PBOT's 3:45pm Friday newsletter 😒
Watch for the BikeLoud sweeper in your neighborhood! Volunteers are cleaning up the bike lanes before you get any more flat tires. PBOT needs 2-3 weeks to get a sweeper to every bike lane and many protected bike lanes are difficult for most of their equipment.
#PBOT can't clean many of these lanes during the day with big sweepers that would get stuck in #pdxTraffic! Sweepers on #pdxBikes can be out here taking the edge off of it every day and make a safer ride for everyone in #Portland.
Yet another "safety" project where the deadly status quo has been maintained for years while #PBOT wrings their collective hands about how to do it without impeding cars.
Just had to ride an orange bike across the street to get a speeding #pbot employee to yield to a couple people in a marked crosswalk #portland#Vision60or70something
final day to provide feedback about the 82nd Ave Major Maintenance Project. #PBOT’s current plans do not include improvements to a majority of sidewalks or any accommodations for people riding #pdxBikes along #SE82nd at all, no #BusLanes for the bus line with the highest ridership in #Oregon??
#PBOT has a problem where they all spend effort shuffling around projects trying to catch potential funding sources falling from the sky and then don't really do basic things on the ground about what it's like to ride a bike in this city. #Portland#pdxBikes#Vision60or70something#ClimateDenial
