I love that in @protonmail I can whilst viewing a new email...
Press 'M' to move it to a folder.
If folder doesn't exist I can create it.
I can select newly created folder.
KILLER FEATURE : Create a filter to always move emails from that address to that folder.
In Gmail creating a filter is a ballache, the link to do so is STILL at the BOTTOM of the ~500 filters I have created so just getting there is a ballache.
I am told, Tutanota, is a good e-mail provider, but I can never remember their name (much less pronounce it).
Is it pronounced:
Too ta no ta ?
That said, it is not rememberable. For all the flaws Proton has, which I do not recommend (they'll take your money and run), at least their name is rememberable.
Hey @protonmail , loved the most recent Community Update. The point about Google tracking by being logged into Gmail is enough to get me to look again at automatic forwarding from Gmail.
However, those emails end up right in my primary proton inbox. I'd much rather they end up in a dedicated email alias, so they are separated out in Thunderbird automatically.
Is there any way to configure forwarding from Gmail to go to a particular inbox, or even a particular folder?
#vulnerability#security#protonmail#tutanota https://www.sonarsource.com/blog/code-vulnerabilities-leak-emails-in-proton-mail/
1️⃣ Use hide-my-email aliases 😎 Services like #ProtonPass
allow you to turn off the alias if you receive spam. It’s a straightforward way to keep your inbox clean.
2️⃣ Using email filters can automatically detect and block spam. 🧨 #ProtonMail goes even further with advanced custom spam filtering to sort all incoming emails with machine learning - all while preserving your privacy.
A few weeks ago I realised @protonmail has sieve support for filters. I manage multiple domains (like slippy.xyz emails too), I could eliminate a lot of filters and replace them with one mega-sieve filter. I love it.
Some fancy snippets:
Move all emails sent to @slippy.xyz into the slippy.xyz folder.
if address :domain :is "to" "slippy.xyz"
{
fileinto "slippy.xyz";
}
Add catch-all labels if an email address is not one of my registered addresses.
if not anyof(
header :list "to" ":addrbook:myself",
header :list "from" ":addrbook:myself"
) {
fileinto "catch-all";
}
If the subject line contains [OTR], mark the email to be deleted in 7 days.
I know the sender has to know this trick, but if they know, I respect their privacy request.
I don't like to beat up on #protonmail, I'm a long time user of the service .. but their customer service just doesn't cut it.
Yes, they may respond in a timely manner but the crux of their response is normally 'we can't provide a timescale for this'.
I reported an issue in Oct 2022 where I was able to bypass the app lock on the Android app. I got a response confirming that they can replicate the issue but "can't give a timescale for a fix"
@itsfoss I was almost signing up to #Skiff but, then, where is the #Xorg or #Wayland client? I am not decided yet, still comparing it to #Tutanota for instance. Already got a #ProtonMail account with web access only and not very happy because of this.
Looking for first hand experience / review of Proton Mail (and any of their related apps). I've signed up for the free tier but would need to commit to a higher one if I go all in. Going from free Gmail to $100 per year for..ever...has me pausing.
How's the reliability? Any concerns I should be aware of? If my family is all in on iCloud, should I just stick with that?
I mention that because #Protonmail uses an American private company for their support, which means that anything sent to their support has absolutely no guarantee of privacy.
It's stated somewhere deep in their T&C and they provide an alternative way of getting support if you care to ask for it, but still it's a big flaw in "privacy by design".
It seems I can email everyone just fine except folks with Gmail accounts. Please stop using Google...like, entirely. Nothing good can come of it! #DeGoogle
Okay this is getting ridiculous now. My own innocuous little domain email (which ironically years ago integrated with Gmail) is still wholesale blocked by every single #Gmail account I email, so within #ProtonMail I have to switch to an alias with a standard ProtonMail email address to get it through. Apart from constantly screaming into the void that people don't use #Google, does anyone have any ideas on sorting this so I can get my emails to go through? #email#emails#Proton#domain
Which web browser do you use with Proton services such as Proton Mail, Proton VPN, and Proton Pass?
I am currently using Firefox with with Ublock Origin and DDG Search. Just wondering if there are better Proton/browser options out there.
