We brought together research software engineers (#RSE) and software engineering (#SE) researchers to talk about overlaps and how we can learn from each other and move forward together.
To conclude the seminar, we're talking about how we catalyze a larger community going forward, including future events, publications, videos, etc.

Chapter 8 of "Software Design by Example (Python edition)" is about functions and closures. I'm still unhappy with it after two complete rewrites: the material on functions is there because otherwise the preceding chapter would be too long, and the material on closures is needed because otherwise decorators (the next chapter) don't make sense, but it still feels awkward and rushed, and feels different from other chapters. #sdxpy 1/
@gvwilson yes, I have also come across that. It didn't quite hit my level because I had already covered similar material through other courses. Large overlap with the Intermediate #RSEng course above. I'm an early career Research Software Engineer, and my main focus at the moment is learning better software design because I never had formal #SE or #ComputerScience education having come from physics. Your course seems to take a much more hands-on approach which I am hoping is better than the more conceptual approach of other books.
Do you have any other good resources you recommend on software design?

This is a CD containing a Kodak "Business Game", released in ~1998, for MacOS.
The "game" involves various videos and text documentation relating to Kodak and it's business practices. It's presented in #Swedish, #Norwegian, #Finnish, and #Danish.
Blanca Paloma gave an extraordinary vocal performance, and I loved the new violin intro. Unfortunately, however, I just can't really connect with this song. Maybe it does well with the juries but I can't see how it fares well with the public vote.
Before Loreen blew the roof off with Euphoria, she gave us Tattoo. Vocally on point as you'd expect. As others have noted, without the staging the song is exposed as a pale imitation of Euphoria. I still enjoyed it, but until we know what Loreen's staging is going to be in Liverpool, I'm pretty sure the value bet for the win is Finland
