Business interests profiting massively from creative labor mean to keep devaluing that labor. Yeah we see it. We reject it.

We’re with the strikers, all in. Their fight is our fight. No daylight between.

Expect us not to be quiet about it.

NY Times:
Hollywood Writers Will Go on Strike, Halting Production

The unions representing the writers, the East and West branches of the Writers Guild of America, said “the companies’ behavior has created a gig economy inside a union work force, and their immovable stance in this negotiation has betrayed a commitment to further devaluing the profession of writing.”

Union membership was already on the decline when Ronald Reagan took office in 1981, but it deteriorated further during his tenure, allowing employers to wring higher productivity from workers whose wages began to stagnate.

Taking the torch from WardQNormal on the [, my hobby is taking graphs of economic data over time and indicating the year that Ronald Reagan was inaugurated, just in case people find that helpful or informative.]

Today In Labor History May 1, 1830: Mary Harris "Mother" Jones was born. Mother Jones was renowned for her militancy and fiery oration, as well as her many juicy quotes. She once said, “I’m no lady. I’m a hell-raiser.” She also was an internationalist, saying “My address is wherever there is a fight against oppression.” Despite the difficulties of constant travel, poor living and jail, she lived to be 100. She was also a cofounder of the anarchosyndicalist IWW.

Red Hat's decision to lay off 800 employees, despite being a profitable company, is disheartening. With executives not taking pay cuts, the burden of this decision is not shared equally. I stand in solidarity with the affected workers and encourage us to challenge the capitalist logic that prioritizes profits over people. Let's support each other and build a more equitable future.

Spending the extra funds I have this month helping people. Here's one that still needs a bit more to reach the goal:
https://gofund.me/bbfe392b

In my opinion this grassroots help that goes straight to the person in need is one of the best ways to advance the changes we want to see in the world.

And it doesn't matter where we are in the world. People help people.💗

Let's get this straight:

when a workers' strike inconveniences you, it's OK to be peeved or even annoyed.

At the bosses. Yell at the companies and the execs, complain about worker's comp being too low—NOT about service disruptions.

Focus on the cause, not the symptom.
