Stephen Colbert said: “I support collective bargaining. This nation owes so much to unions. They’re the reason we have weekends, and by extension, why we have TGI Friday’s.”
Late-Night Shows Shut Down With WGA Strike
The four nightly network shows and HBO's 'Real Time' and 'Last Week Tonight' are all going dark.
Hollywood Writers Defiant as Strike Begins: “We’re Not Scared, Bring It On”.
Top writers took to social media to slam studios as the WGA orders its first work stoppage in 15 years: "They’re going to lose billions — and still give us a deal."
"By the guild’s calculations, its proposals would cost $429 million per year. The guild said the studios’ counter-offers amounted to only $86 million per year."

Hollywood Writers Will Go on Strike, Halting Production
The unions representing the writers, the East and West branches of the Writers Guild of America, said “the companies’ behavior has created a gig economy inside a union work force, and their immovable stance in this negotiation has betrayed a commitment to further devaluing the profession of writing.”

Today In Labor History May 1, 1830: Mary Harris "Mother" Jones was born. Mother Jones was renowned for her militancy and fiery oration, as well as her many juicy quotes. She once said, “I’m no lady. I’m a hell-raiser.” She also was an internationalist, saying “My address is wherever there is a fight against oppression.” Despite the difficulties of constant travel, poor living and jail, she lived to be 100. She was also a cofounder of the anarchosyndicalist IWW.
Red Hat's decision to lay off 800 employees, despite being a profitable company, is disheartening. With executives not taking pay cuts, the burden of this decision is not shared equally. I stand in solidarity with the affected workers and encourage us to challenge the capitalist logic that prioritizes profits over people. Let's support each other and build a more equitable future. #RedHat#Layoffs#Solidarity#WorkersRights
Spending the extra funds I have this month helping people. Here's one that still needs a bit more to reach the goal: https://gofund.me/bbfe392b
In my opinion this grassroots help that goes straight to the person in need is one of the best ways to advance the changes we want to see in the world.
And it doesn't matter where we are in the world. People help people.💗
