is a pretty great experience, but using KDE-Wayland makes me realize how not-ready-for-prime-time it really is.

Not perfect, but I finally had time to get my new mini pc mostly set up! There are still some small details to work out, but I'm happy with the progress I've made! Still relatively new to Linux and learning a lot. I even did the css on the waybar (ignore the bad spacing, I'm fixing that later lol) :neocat_laugh_tears:

I'm curious about Linux immutable distros, and have been meaning to give @fedora and its "atomic desktop" a go.

Bonus: there is a version/spin available that uses Sway as the default desktop:

Finally got around to configuring the fingerprint reader in my @frameworkcomputer and it wasn't too hard.

Encountered an issue with pipewire on Void Linux and SwayWM that's new to me.

When either started manually in the terminal or auto-started in the Sway config, pipewire(-pulse) sound works OK.

When exiting and restarting Sway: sound fails.

Workaround: Kill existing pipewire processes, and start pipewire upon sway launch.

Put in shell script ...

#!/usr/bin/env bash
kill -9 $(pidof pipewire)
pipewire & pipewire-pulse &

... and auto-start script in sway config.

After having used Sway WM for more than 4 years, I realized just a few days ago that windows can be arranged by holding <SUPER> and dragging your mouse just like with any other WM.

Of course Sway is a keyboard-first WM (and that's one of the reasons why I use it every day) but still it's great to have drag and drop support. 👏

Screen recording shows two terminal windows that are re-arranged by using mouse drag and drop instead of keyboard shortcuts.

Oh I see the devs have added rules for setting fullscreen, dimensions and position.
Also there is a slight breaking change if you use the latest commits from git where in rules tag has been renamed to tags.

Whilst seeing how far I can get with I have been able to get to run without issue but other compositors like and I just cannot get them to start. Oh well I'll leave it for today as that's enough excitement for one day. :freebsd:

folk I've hit an issue which I never really had using . I'm trying to run Hyprland or Sway but I'm hitting an issue where my GPU isn't found. This test laptop is an old Celeron N2830 with Z36xxx/Z37xxx GPU . How do I get the right kernel module or driver for this setup please ? I know the above wm's worked under Linux as I used them on the same machine.

Since my mid-2013 reached its (long time ago), and the decides not to support 11 anymore. 😤

I’ve decided to bring my back to life and install on it. And it is indeed great so far. 😍

As you can see I’m still configuring and customizing it.
Let’s see how it goes 🙄

Oh dear Lord please help me !
I really love running under but recently it seemed to crash a lot for no apparent reason. Yes I reported the issues but we could not find the reason. So I switched to as everything just works there. But you know me I keep going back to Qtile and as of today's commits I cannot make it crash ! So far that is. I really need to stop this back and forth and just commit 100%.
Anyone else keep switching between or is it just me that needs help ? 😂

I so wish that as a user on I could set a custom on-click for the sway/workspaces module. Apparently it's possible with the wlr/workspaces module but it's not available for the stable release.
I gave a shot but on my multi monitor setup it messes up the workspaces using persistent.
Think I'll just disable the on-click as I've already scripted my custom dispatcher for my dual screen setup on Sway.

Hmmm so it turns out when using if I disable Kanshi and restart, pulling out the external display still works. Even reconnecting and everything seems to be in the right order. Very cool or very weird indeed. 🤔

A) xaos (old fave linux prog., look it up)
9) (or if wayland's not your thing yet)
8)
7) NeoVim (any vi is good, though)
6)
5) FOSS OSes in general
4) Linux distros
3) ( is my preferred flavor, but many of them are excellent)
