Finished The Colour of Magic and swiftly moving on to book 2: The Light Fantastic.
This is one the quickest I've read any book (the last time being, I believe, the same book). I'm not usually a big reader, or a quick one, but these books seem to be just right for me.
Been re-reading The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett and it's such a good book, and so well written! I feel like I'm watching it as I read, the mark of a truly great author.
I'd love to see a film/show of it! Who would you pick as Rincewind? My mind went to a young Eric Idle, but maybe David Tennant would be a good substitute.
Happy birthday, Terry Pratchett, born 28th April 1948. I was in a B&B in Leverburgh, Harris, when the news broke of his death, and had to explain to the landlord why I was so affected, but Terry's books were some of my earliest influences. My very first "book" was pretty much an attempt at a Discworld-style universe. "Mort" is still one of my all time favourite books. #TerryPrachett#discworld#TerryPratchettDay
I've started reading Terry Pratchett's Truckers to my kids at bedtime. I've never read any of his Nome books before, but of course they're as much of a delight as the Discworld series.
Finished up #Sourcery by #TerryPrachett , and it's already jumped up the list as one of my favorite #discworld books. Love the discourse on identity and its relationship (or lack thereof) to skill. So fun!
"The pen might not be mightier than the sword, but maybe the printing press was heavier than the siege weapon. Just a few words can change everything ..."
– Terry Pratchett, Monstrous Regiment (Discworld #31)
I just discovered a #mastodon#hack: post something about Terry Pratchett, then follow everyone who faves or boosts it. Instant group of the awesomest people in your feed.
40 years ago today, on the 24th of November 1983, the first Discworld book, "The Colour of Magic" was published.
After this, Sir Terry Pratchett averaged two novels a year until the posthumous release of The Shepherds Crown in 2015.
It's impossible for me to overstate the impact Discworld books have had on me. The world is a far lesser place with the loss of Sir Terry. A man who, driven by anger, still managed to fill the world with love.
"You said it yourself: all this over thousands of years of tension and politics and power struggles. In recent years things have gone in certain ways, causing power to shift. There are those who would like it to shift back, even if it returns on a tide of blood."
"Vimes maintained three trays: In, Out and Shake It All About; the last one was where he put everything he was too busy, angry, tired, or bewildered to do anything about."
My 12yo daughter is a budding #sci-fi fan. She loved #TheAstronauts on #Nickelodeon. We are having great fun watching #SyFy's #TheArk. I want to introduce her to some more light tv. #Buffy is on the menu.
Can anyone recommend more age appropriate #scifi / #fantasy TV or movies to introduce her to?
