#emdiplomacyAdventCalendar (23/24) #emdiplomats had to be flexible, even when celebrating Christmas. The Protestant diplomats in Osnabrück celebrated Christmas at the same date as the Catholics, although according to the Julian calendar it was not until 2 weeks from now.

Il y a près de 100 rues, places, boulevards, etc., parisiens nommés d'après des mathématiciens, et pas nécessairement des Français.
Parmi ces noms de rues :
Rue Laplace (5è arrondissement)
Rue Bernoulli (8è arr.)
Rue Newton (16è arr.)
Étonnamment, il n'y a pas de rue Fourier à Paris. Cependant, la rue où il est né à Auxerre a été rebaptisée en l'honneur de ce grand mathématicien.
Mais l'absence d'une rue Grothendieck (le Einstein des mathématiques) est une faute impardonnable !
Parmi cette petite centaine de rues, sauf erreur de ma part, deux seulement portent le nom d'une mathématicienne ♀️:
Rue Sophie Germain (14è arr.)
Rue Emilie du Châtelet (13è arr., voie privée)

Sophie Germain (1776-1831) :
une des premières mathématiciennes françaises. Elle est connue pour ses travaux sur la théorie des nombres, sur l'élasticité des corps, et pour sa correspondance depuis 1804, et sous un nom d'emprunt, avec le célèbre mathématicien allemand Carl Friedrich Gauss.
En effet, afin de s’épargner le ridicule qu’attirait à l'époque le titre de femme savante, elle cachait sa véritable identité sous un nom d’emprunt masculin, celui de Maurice Leblanc. Elle est coutumière du fait, cette identité d'emprunt lui ayant déjà servi de couverture pour s’inscrire aux cours de l’École polytechnique dont l’accès était alors exclusivement réservé aux hommes. Ce n'est qu'à l'été 1807 que Gauss, alors invité à Paris par le général de Napoléon, comprit la "supercherie". Il lui écrit une lettre dont voici un extrait :
"Mais lorsqu’une personne de ce sexe, qui, par nos mœurs et par nos préjugés, doit rencontrer infiniment plus d’obstacles et de difficultés, que les hommes, à se familiariser avec ses recherches épineuses, sait néanmoins franchir ces entraves et pénétrer ce qu’elles ont de plus caché, il faut sans doute, qu’elle ait le plus noble courage, des talents tout à fait extraordinaires, le génie supérieur."🥰

Caught in the act! PDS 70 b is a young exoplanet which is currently undergoing formation. This means we do not only observe the planet, but also the so-called protoplanetary disc, the disc around the star that hosts the material that eventually forms the planets.
They come in all shapes and sizes! We already know that there a few very large and hot exoplanets out there, but WASP-103 b is a special one. The so-called tidal deformation is so strong that the planet appears to have more the shape of a rugby ball 🏉
Setting the tone for this #HipHop#AdventCalendar is Kam's Holiday Madness - I believe rap's most in-depth treatment of America's relation with its public holidays, including Christmas:
