#ampache 6.4.0 out now!

This is a great release to move to. Numerous fixes and weird bugs squashed.

The 6 branches are winding up development but API6 will continue to be extended when development has moved to Ampache 7.

Expect a few hours down time while they're physically moved over and I update the DNS to the new IP.

#ampache users who use transcoding!

You should update your config files to remove the K from the encode_args strings.

I'll make a note of this in the docs for our next release, but this is a possible cause of stream time-outs and other issues playing transcoded files!

I think this closes out all the streaming issues I've had and should make the processes faster if you were affected

Over 60 pulls were merged this release which is definitely a record.

Work on the #API with lots of new methods and #database updates with testing on a blank database starting all the way back on Ampache 3.9.0!

I want to be able to play anything at home, and be able to select play it in kitchen and living room.

So large that I haven't updated it for a while. It is great to see people pick up some slack for me when time is hard to come by.

For #ampache #api developers I want to make a clear statement.

There will not be an API7 when Ampache 7 releases. We will continue to build and extend API6.

This means no breaking changes or removals to the API for our next major version.

Development of #ampache 7 will need to start this year.

I think this will ready after July 2024 and will raise the minimum #php version to #php82.

It usually takes me about 6 months depending on the removals and changes. I don't intend to make major structural changes to the backend so I think that's an over estimation.

Some hidden static typing #bugs have been found and the verify experience for catalogs is much nicer.

This isn't a big release but I like this one a lot for catching those unknown bugs.

The reason why? I have a new job it will take me some time to balance work and code again this year so I don't want to waste it.

When I can dedicate my time consistently it will reopen.

Here are some interesting #stats for #ampache 6.1.0 downloads 2 weeks after release.

• php8.2 (60%)
• php7.4 (20%)
• php8.1 (10%)
• php8.0 (5%)
• php agnostic zips (5%)

The split between #git clones and zip releases is actually 50-50 which I didn't expect.

But it does for to show that putting the extra time into releases for #php 7.4 is worth the effort to help people who haven't/can't/don't want to upgrade yet.

A lot of new testing scripts have helped us close out some long running bugs and issues in other areas

#API 6 has had a lot of clean up work and a few new methods to make bookmarks much easier to use.
Consider it fully stable!

Vorgestern habe ich #Koel entdeckt. Eine selbst gehostete Audio-Streaming Jukebox für die eigene (nicht öffentliche) MP3-Sammlung.

Im Gegensatz zu #Subsonic oder #Ampache überzeugt mich der Browser-Player. Sehr cool ist auch das Caching bei schlechten mobilen Verbindungen. Auch der Server performt ziemlich gut, vor allem beim Upload ganzer Alben.

Schade, dass es die App bisher nicht auf #FDroid gibt, sondern nur im App- und im PlayStore. 😢 Die hätte ich gerne einmal ausprobiert.
