i learned this week that the amazing singer jimmie dale gilmore's 1st recorded appearance was this 1969 hub city movers 7-inch, setting a gilbert shelton comic to music, with jimmie dale singing lead on the cosmic c&w b-side. https://taylorjessen.blogspot.com/2022/08/hub-city-movers-chicken-song-bw-i-cant.html
...which i learned about by passively facilitating this beautiful interaction between @mrcompletely (who requested it) & @SidFudd (who'd already digitized it). https://heads.social/@mrcompletely/112275981607794436

weekend read-in: the debut issue of dummy, dedicated to the art & oral history of pee wee's playhouse. absolutely inspiring to hear how paul reubens ran the show, making space for gary panter & other weirdo artists to essentially rewrite/redraw the folk iconography of children's television for a new generation. consider myself blessed for being the exact right age when it debuted. excited for dummy #2, too, about air pirates funnies. https://www.dummyzine.com @bookstodon

@mrcompletely @Cyrus I've got a thing on the Doonesbury blog about how Trudeau reproduced the misogyny of the underground comix in his early work until he smartened up with first Nicole and then Joanie.

@PaulInRainCity @Cyrus yeah I've read that. He ironed that meanness out quickly

finished reading alan moore's early serials for the UK music weekly sounds, 1980-1983, written & drawn as curt vile. "roscoe moscow: who killed rock & roll" was a gas, if maybe slightly too edgy for moi, but adored the "the stars my degradation," which is like a perfect halfway between & . can really see his inner crumb.
