Thinking about my Linux installation, Garuda Linux. It's great, I mean really really good, but it's run by the type of Linux Elitists that look down on users like me and I don't feel particularly welcome or keen to become part of that community*. So I'm considering a hop to a new Distro.

I'm used to Arch distros now (RIP Antergos) and I really appreciate Rolling Releases so the first candidate that springs to mind is Manjaro Linux. It even has an unnofficial Gamer Edition "spin" (fork).

What's more, I could use Manjaro to obliterate that Windows partition that still exists on my SSD, preserving all the data in my Garuda Home directory and simply copy it over between the dual Linuxes. Then I delete Garuda and expand Manjaro across the whole 2TB SSD.

Two birds, one stone? 😃 Am suspicious, solutions are rarely this neat...🤔☺️

*Like the Fedi, the political attitudes of certain groups (Distros/Instances) tends to be something you find out after you've joined up. Distrowatch needs a checkbox for Linux Elitism 😁

"Everyone's talking about AI, how it will change the world, and even suggesting it might end humanity as we know it. Dave Troy is joined by Dr. Timnit Gebru and Émile Torres, two prominent critics of AI doomerism, to cut through the noise, and look at where these ideas really came from, and offer suggestions on how we might look at these problems differently. And they also offer a picture of the darker side of these ideas and how they connect to Eugenics and other ideologies historically.

Together Émile and Timnit coined an acronym called TESCREAL, which stands for Transhumanism, Extropianism, Singularitarianism, Cosmism, Rationalism, Effective Altruism, and Longtermism — and yeah, that's a lot of -isms. But it ties into other topics that we have covered in this series, including Russian Cosmism and Longtermism.

Dr. Gebru came to prominence in 2020 after she was fired from Google for speaking up about the company's lack of ethical guardrails in its AI development work. Émile Torres studies existential risk and has been a critic of the "longtermist" movement for several years."—Dave Troy >

As the United States faces yet another showdown over the federal debt ceiling, we examine the roots of the conflict by looking at the "North/Paul Strategy," a decades-old plan to provoke a financial collapse and then seize power. Rooted in libertarian economic theory and Christian Reconstructionist doctrine, Gary North and Ron Paul's ideas laid the foundation for the Tea Party and later, January 6th.

Dave chats with James Scaminaci III, a scholar and expert on Fourth Generation Warfare, and Frederick Clarkson, who has been studying religious extremism for decades, and is an expert on the New Apostolic Reformation.

They look at why economic eschatology is a persistent feature of American political life, and how we might break the vicious "cycle of doom."

There's a particular kind of rich person humblebragging which is one of my least favourite things.

Examples being:

  • Beautiful women saying "doing those nude scenes really helped me get over my body negativity issues"

  • Immensely rich and famous people giving talks on how they struggle with 'imposter syndrome'

This study found that Pierre Poilievre’s popularity decreases among Canadians who are more educated, while Justin Trudeau’s increases.
’s favourability rating among university graduates is 23%; while Trudeau’s is 51%.

The city that most favours Poilievre is Saskatoon (48%); he's least favoured is Halifax (18%)

cazabon,

@gemelliz

I'm not expressing an opinion on Poilievre one way or the other, but the implication that Trudeau is good and Poilievre is bad because smart people allegedly like one and not the other is positively .

It's at its worst. "Pfft, what do we care what dumb people think?"

Canada, we're than this. Please do better. This kind of crap can a .

I agree with you that that modern / politics, with this , bears a large share of responsibility for our present condition, where politics can't be discussed . Those towards one side of the spectrum decided the rest were "", and that was that.

The Sun never fails to hit it’s daily, and very creepy, bikini story quota.

I guess it saves them money on hiring journalists, seeing as how their readership can only manage the large print as it is.

You can pretty safely assume that anyone reading The Sun regularly doesn’t have any post-secondary education.

Those that do and choose to be stupid read the National Post instead.

cazabon,

@taco I neither endorse nor refute your criticism of The Sun.

However, this attitude of looking down one's nose at anyone who "doesn't have any post-secondary education" is bullshit, elitist, exclusionary crap.

If someone is willfully ignorant, go ahead and call them out on it. But not having had an opportunity to go to post-secondary school does not make someone automatically a moron, unworthy of consideration as your fellow human.
