Rep. Jamie Raskin & Sen. Richard Blumenthal have intro’d legislation to enforce the Constitution's explicit language banning foreign #emoluments by prohibiting the President, VP, Cabinet officials and Members of Congress from accepting payments from foreign governments without first obtaining the consent of Congress.
Officials would be prohibited from accepting foreign payments without Congressional approval during the entire time in office and for two years after leaving.
The legislation is welcome, but late, & will get few R votes. #TFG may not have been elected if...
Dems introduced leg. that'd prohibit US officials from accepting$, payments or gifts from foreign govts w/o congress. consent, their response to a yearslong probe into TFG’s overseas bus dealings.
The proposal would enforce the Const’s ban on #emoluments. Dems say Trump brazenly ignored the clause as president as foreign govt officials flocked to his hotels & properties.
Oversight Ranking Member Jamie Raskin sent a letter to TFG demanding he returns the $7.8M on his businesses made from foreign governments while President.
Trump and other Republicans do NOT care about the United States Constitution or "letting voters decide." They think they can steamroll over the 14th amendment qualifications the same way they did with the emoluments clause. The 14th amendment is self-executing and plainly written. If laws are not enforced, they may as well not exist. #trump#emolumentsClause#emoluments#14thamendment#notQualified

It's amazing when moron #Trumpsters SWOON when they talk about how "he accepted no salary" and worked "for free b/c he so loves the American people!" 🤦♂️
He accepted no salary (a mere $400k/yr) to eschew "financial reporting requirements" so he didn't have to reveal his income while president.
Then he went on a criminal spree of #emoluments, #grift, and sweetheart deals that made him TENS OF MILLIONS while in office.
“Neither the American press nor the public can afford to be lulled. The man who, as president, incited a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol in order to overturn an election is again openly fomenting political violence while explicitly endorsing authoritarian strategies should he return to power. That is the story of the 2024 election. Everything else is just window dressing.” https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/09/trump-milley-execution-incitement-violence/675435/
