Time for my periodic #filter thread now that #smoke season is heating up. Make sure to ignore manufacturer's recommendations on room size for air purifiers and go right to the CADR rating. Room size should be about 1.5x CADR.
Holy shit, this actually works! Thanks to the amazing @shadowsminder, I learned something that never occured to me before; #filters also check for text in #ImageDescriptions! I only ever thought to check if I could #filter out the message you get when the image is not described, but never paid attention to testing with actual descriptions.
What this means is that, combined with a few art-related tags, I can filter out a decent chunk of images from my timeline with words like image, photo, drawing, illustration, etc. Not all descriptions use them, but some do!
The only drawback is that this will only filter out people kind enough to use hashtags, and the awesome folks writing #AltText. Those who can do so but don't -- those I would most like to filter out, because if they can't inconvenience themselves then why should I? -- will be unaffected.
It's not ideal. Especially not when viewing just media requires just checking one checkbox, but not showing it is not an option. But it is still a neat temporary solution, for those days when there's a little too much of everything.
</ironie>
I've posted it before in the past but I'll post it again:
The single best thing I ever did with my #email account(s) was to set up a #filter for #MailingLists or #Subscriptions and have it skip the inbox and apply a label to it.
It catches 99% of things and makes me very happy to not have them in my inbox or notifications.
What can be achieved with it: irregularly shaped elements with borders with simple code & without using children or pseudos (for example for a thumb on a range, which can have neither). Like in the last image.
I made a personal #filter to prevent being bombarded by someone calling themselves thegx on many servers/instances. But seriously. I truly appreciate the work admins do to keep literal nazis and kkk out of our instances. If everyone filters nagging pains in the ass like thegx will they just sit around talking to themselves? Or does this rise to the level of something (mostly volunteer) admins have to address server by server? #AskTheFedi
#mastodon can #filter keywords and #mute users but how do I filter keywords from a particular user?
Like lets say I love card games and don't want to filter "card" out. But one particular person I follow talks about their business card collection too much. How can I filter "'card' but only in posts from @businesscardfan"?
is there a way on #mastodon to block #retoots by a certain user? also is there a way to #filter out retoots of posts that were previously shown already in the timeline?
