Delighted that I’ll be able to vote in the #ge2024 for an eco-socialist candidate.
I can’t vote SNP again whilst they proudly platform folk like Cherry in my old constituency. I don’t say that just as a “disgruntled” voter but as a queer Indy activist which picked up the role of an SNP branch organiser in her constituency after Alba defections.
The only choice for me in this election is the @ScottishGreens
While in many ways this is a crucial election for the future of the country, for many, Labour no longer offer much hope of salvation.
The next six weeks will see the (normal) pre-election media driven battle between the two main party leaders, but sadly, this aspect of the election is going to be as edifying as watching too bald men fight over a comb;
the real politics is likely to be away from the leaders; perhaps for once the media might give the Greens more airtime?
Best case scenario they tax billionaires, properly address climate change, uphold the rights of trans, queer, disabled and first nations people and hold the bastards to account.
Worst case, weed is legalised and we feel a bit nice.
"The state of the [#ScottishIndependence] movement in 2024 reminds me of 2017 when Sturgeon decided to “take independence off the table” at the Scottish Parliamentary elections and totally scunnered SNP members.
I remember hearing reports of “indy-free” leaflets arriving from HQ and being binned by angry activists" -- Lesley Riddoch
I think it's a little unfair of Lesley to blame the #Greens for bringing #HumzaYousaf down. HE sacked THEM, not the other way round; having sacked them, he didn't have a majority any longer. They didn't vote against him; he resigned.
Once he had resigned, they voted with the government against the motion of no confidence.
Hard to see much difference between #Labor and #LNP these days Fortunately, my local member is #Greens Elizabeth Watson-Brown, so neither will get a preference from my votes.
@RichardJMurphy the #Greens aren't getting airtime because, as you know, the owners of the British media (and I explicitly include the BBC) see the Greens as a much more serious threat to their status and privilege than #ReformUK.
@Kellys@simon_brooke when the greens represent the same level of challenge to the status-quo as the #SNP, then then the smears, slurs and negative coverage of #greens will step-up a gear - its already started
@OliverNoble@Kellys the #Greensought to be a far bigger challenge to the status quo than the SNP. The SNP want a change in governance structure to less than half a percent of the planet, while leaving corporate interests largely unaffected. The Greens want – and need – and entire overthrow of the global economic system.
The #Greens are hoping for a win in the Bunwell by-election, strengthening their chances of winning the Waveney Valley constituency in the General Election.
I would say one of the big patterns of the night is the swing to independents… double the numbers that were standing for re-election, compared to more like 20% boosts to each of Labour and the Lib Dems.
I’d be interested to know how many of the new independent councillors formerly sat as Labour (and defected over, eg. party position on the Middle East) or as Tory councillors (and essentially defected from a sinking ship)
