Castelli came up with the „Unlimited Pro Jersey“ featuring a mesh pocket for a 1.5 l hydration bladder.
I have no idea how fiddly it is getting a bladder in and out for refill (can imagine top racers would rather swap into a complete fresh jersey in an aid zone). Nor how durable (and thus sustainable) the construction is. Nor whether it would actually feel „right“ on your back.
@tfrank_de
for refill, i could imagine something like the Source Universal Tube
Adapter ( https://sourceoutdoor.com/product/uta/ ), but i can also imagine the taste of hot water, when carrying the bladder directly on your back and in full sunlight.. 🙃 @mastobikes
Into the belly of the build. Five weeks in, five weeks out.
Warmer than usual for this time but still cold enough for long tights and gloves. I have been making my own hydration and nutrition for long runs this build. I figured that silicone baby food containers would work for my "gels" - a mix of honey, ginger syrup, and maldon salt. So far so good!
My elevation runs are laps of the sledding hill. Boring but lots of time to think and reflect. And it makes elevation on race day seem luxurious! I was observing today how different I feel since finishing the phd. I feel it in my muscles. In my bones. It's been about seven weeks since graduation and I am still marvelling at the change. I am excited for the next five weeks of build!
1040m of climbing today in the middle of my long run today. Yoga practice 1174 - self guided yin.
Is '#hydration' a bit of a beat-up? I got to thinking about this, AGAIN, after @jojoeffe mentioned her New Year's health resolutions yesterday. I have long thought it was an unnecessary obsession to drink 2 litres of water a day: the ubiquitous personal water bottles that were not a thing when I was a kid. Have a read of this if you don't believe me:
Now down a waist, chest and neck size. Burning all previous size clothing.
Will never be that size ever again.
I can now feel and see the changes all over. Even my hands.
I feel lighter not just due to the sudden freedom from bodily mass but my muscles feel surprised at how much less energy it takes to move me around. I feel like I float around the house.
(Doing that a lot anyway these days thanks to @MariaTheMartian ♥️☺️)
Intermittent Fasting is the greatest thing ever. Feels like instead of "Doing IF" humans should en-masse simply cut out a meal and have a 16 hour minimum period of not eating as part of their everyday life. It feels like a more natural state of being.
I benefit not just from slimming by teaching my body to munch the fat stores I have but through autophagy also, taking all the energy normally used in digestion to go and repair cells instead, a system that is supressed by excess food intake. It's miraculous. My skin feels amazing.
Hunger isn't an alarm like thirst is. You can ignore it for a while in complete safety. If I'm hungry during a fasting period I drink water to give my stomach something to do. Side benefit: extra hydration.
And not only is Fasting free, done regularly it cuts down your food bills. Imagine if we were all doing it regularly, how food demand would drop.
Exercise starting soon to build muscle back up and increase metabolism. Needed weight shifted first to free up energy for it (perversely).
During my 84km ride (15-hour day ride), I consumed:
2 700ml bottles of water
2 600ml bottles Mountain Dew
1 iced Vietnamese coffee with milk
1 ham pastry of some sort
1 🐷🍳🍚 meal (only ate half the serving of rice, it wasn't good)
1 🍌 con hielo 🧊
about 1.5 glasses of water
I'm ±62 kilos. Average-ish. Normal BMI with a tendency to overeat. 🙊
