#Nao Saito, known by her stage name Nao, walked in the show of international designer #SaminaMughal, clad in a red gown tied with a gold "obi" sash. The dress was made by a Japanese company hoping to share #Japan's culture with the world.
On my first Japan trip 18 years ago, I ran into this surprising scene at Ninenzaka along the hills of Higashiyama in Kyoto. Three women (likely tourists) in Maiko attire are passing a more contemporarily-dressed young couple. There are services allowing people to rent a full “package experience” including make-up and wearing kimono and traditional accessories.
Known to the world primarily for its iconic Sensōji Temple (and, since 2012, Tokyo Skytree), Asakusa used to be Tokyo’s leading entertainment district for many centuries. While it’s best to avoid the tourist crowds around Sensōji as much as possible, I do enjoy the "shitamachi” (downtown) atmosphere of the side streets, where the locals can be seen going about their pastimes.
A drawing made mostly with artist grade crayons by Caran D'Ache, rather than my usual painting supplies.
I'd say that along watercolors, crayons is the most difficult medium to master, because in order to get good coverage and rich, deep colors requires lots of skill. Watercolors are very difficult compared to other, opaque paints because it requires you to think in negative space due to its transparency.
And yet, these are the two art supply mediums we give to kids in pre-school and school. I'd posit that they need to start with colored pencils for drawing, and gouache for painting, not crayons and watercolors.
So I decided to continue with a season theme and winter comes right after fall! This next notebook will combine the feel of a frosty forest lost in gentle swirls of snow crystals. ❄️🌨️
Hope to share the finished product soon! :ablobowo:
Presenting the Frozen Forest notebook with a cool winter look, continuing the seasons theme!
As fall cools and the rains give way to snow, forests chill and create a winterland. After a snowstorm, the cold leaves and gentle snowflakes heralds the tranquil peace of winter. ❄️ 🌨️
Wallpapers were broken when I first migrated to #Calckey, finally tried it out again and boy, is this aesthetically pleasing. You can barely see it here but the wallpaper's an artwork of #Tanjiro in his cloud, blue #kimono he got from #Urokodaki.
random idea: #Cloud9 should have a kimono or clothing piece made inspired by this print
