"In 1912, Oskar von Miller, an electrical engineer and founder of the Deutsches Museum, had an idea: Could you project an artificial starry sky onto a dome, as a way of demonstrating astronomical principles to the public?"

🪐 The History Of The World’s First Planetarium
➥ Hackaday

「 The practical realization of the projector required two independent projection spheres. One projected the stars and moved as a unit. It also held a cage that moved differently with projectors for the planets. Other separate projectors handled things like the Milky Way. There were 180 stars and the orbit of Saturn, just as an example was over 11 meters in diameter 」

"I, Voyager" is an open-source universe simulation engine made with Godot also available as a PWA. Think Celestia in a browser.

It's in an early stage of development and has a few rough edges, such as long PWA download times and broken mobile support, but is already useful and has a lot of potential. The project site:

Launch the PWA here:

100 Jahre Planetarium: Die Sterne in begreifbarer Nähe

Help save and bring back Toronto's planetarium! About 10 years ago the University of Toronto bought this iconic building from the ROM and has just let it sit there. They've discussed tearing it down.
This planetarium seated 350 people and was hugely popular - with both shows as well as entertainment shows such as Lasarium. It was the only museum at the same actually paying for itself from high attendance.
Toronto is currently one of the few big cities in North America that does not have a planetarium.
Here is a petition.
