Regarding #conformance, the point is not, why valid and conformant #HTML.
The point is, why invalid and non-conformant HTML.
Imagine a developer was like, say, a lawyer (you can pick another profession). We don’t ask lawyers, either, why apply the law. We ask them, however, when they do their work without considering the law—why they would not apply the law.
That makes sense—we like, need, and expect people to know what they’re doing.
"The Jerusalem bureau has long reviewed all #CNN stories relating to #Israel and #Palestine. Now, it’s helping shape the network’s coverage of the war."
"Every CNN journalist covering Israel and Palestine must submit their work for review by the news organization’s bureau in Jerusalem prior to publication, under a long-standing CNN policy."
One member of CNN’s staff described how the policy works in practice. “‘War-crime’ and ‘genocide’ are taboo words,” the person said. “Israeli bombings in Gaza will be reported as ‘blasts’ attributed to nobody, until the Israeli military weighs in to either accept or deny responsibility. Quotes and information provided by Israeli army and government officials tend to be approved quickly, while those from Palestinians tend to be heavily scrutinized and slowly processed.”
@jrm4@bageera@BigAngBlack I mean that's called #professionalism and if one can't do it then they should not pit themselves voluntarily into a position where they'd have to do so.
I.e.
"If you can't CPR a person for being a fash POS then maybe you should not become a paramedic/firefighter/nurse/doctor/surgeon/anaesthesist/... in the first place!"
Because as despicable as they may be, they should;not get the honor of martyrdom by one's hands or rather lack thereof.
"It was the start of a madcap workplace drama that laid bare an awkward truth: No one really knows what it means to be 'professional' anymore." —@robaeprice for Business Insider
"It is often considered pejorative to call someone an amateur. We are as confused about this as we are about the meaning of “leisure” (to be in command of one’s own time, which is not the same thing as being idle)."
My latest column for the #DemingHeadlight, on the necessity of doing things we love and pushing back against a social system that insists on monetizing every endeavor.
What is the Orbán government's "revenge law," stoking demonstrations of teachers & students in Budapest?
The law is a tool to brutally opress & intimidate teachers critical of the government— it opens the door to the monitoring of their private devices & social media activity 🧵
The situation is spiralling out of control. In a completely disproportionate way, high schoolers & other protesters are getting roughed up and teargassed by the police. Yesterday, a @momentumhu MP @MartonTompos was dragged out of the crowd, handcuffed & detained
RT @MartonTompos: 2023, Hungary. I spent 5 hours enjoying the hospitality of the Hungarian police to be released without even a notice. #professionalismhttps://t.co/AGYOvcXNRB
#AI tools like #GitHub#CoPilot can impressively improve #coding productivity, but before using them, check with your employer/client first! Every client I've reached out to about this has wanted to run it past their legal department first (which is a really smart move on their part!).
DO NOT, under any circumstances, allow these tools to send client/employer data to the AI vendors (which is necessary for their operation) without getting client/employer consent first.
This will be a core tenet of #professionalism for #developers enhancing their services with AI assistants, so best get in the habit now.
@Cyrus@diymusicchat absolutely with you on the religiousness. There has to be a match in motivation.
I also agree, that if casual party is the vibe that's ok. But if it is really time to get things done, it has to move smoothly. Intoxicants get in the way of that, for many.
@diymusicchat when it comes to #professionalism in groups with certain shared goals, one might need to establish hard rules about the lines one should and should not cross.
For my part, I found one of MY hard lines that can not be crossed is that one member can not bring shame on the group. I had to communicate, and act with measured intent while things could still perhaps be resolved.
I believe correction is possible and should be offered as an option when appropriate.
