You know, if you think of the Christian god from the perspective of a "jealous god and your admittance to heaven solely depends on your submission to HE", christian support of Trump kinda makes sense.

Of course, any such god is quite transparently The Bad Guy which is the core problem with such thinking, whether in support of Trump or Christianity.

Any god who cares about worship rather than good deeds, I'll meet in hell and I will have no mercy for them.

And honestly, my reading of the bible would seem to indicate that should any "god" be so real and so evil, the human spirit should absolutely be able to reject and physically kill them. I almost hope it's true because shit bro Final Fantasy in real life let's fuckin' kill 'em

Christian Nationalism is a giant threat to our country. A danger to women, to minorities, to the marginalized and to democracy itself. While these white, Christian nationalists believe they’re saving the country from heathenism, what they’re really offering is a theocracy of top down control with themselves at the top. We must see this threat for what it is, and that starts with understanding. Tim Whitaker is the founder of the New Evangelicals, an inclusive, Jesus-centered community that holds space for those marginalized by the evangelical church and advocates for systemic change. Raised deep in the evangelical world – Tim had a crisis of faith watching his church leaders embrace a man who was so antithetical to what he had been taught to believe. He now holds the toxic churches and their leaders accountable, while still offering a home of faith to his fellow Christians. Please join us for this incredibly engaging conversation. So in honor of #PrideMonth

I am reading an article about how every time ancient art depicts a goddess as sexually alluring, they always get labeled a "goddess of fertility". Even when there is no indication of children, pregnancy, or anything fertile.

The article argues that some goddesses were deities of sex and pleasure, without the maternal fertility aspect.

I am like 🤯 🤯 I have a whole entire archaeology degree and we never addressed this...

How many of these depictions were actually not even goddesses? Maybe the artists were just being horny?

Though I'm a practicing #Christian I welcome any religious or non religious person who loves humanity and wants to do good for all of it. While my dad was very sick last week that he passed we welcomed people from protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Jewish and Hindu traditions to pray with us and they did.

Not out of desperation but out of solidarity in love.

We welcomed thoughts of atheists as well and were grateful for their solidarity in love for my dad. #religion

I'm so grateful for everyone who prayed in love or who offered love without any religious belief or as atheists that I'll block anyone who mocks another religious belief.

You can have reasons for disagreeing with any religion or supporting any religion or for being atheist or not being atheist. A sensible conversation is fine in fact warranted, even passionate ones.

But mocking people for their beliefs or non beliefs?

Block.

Yes, it'd be much clearer to expand the question to a simple “Does the person have a religion?” before asking which one.

“[Michael Dove, chair of the Census21 Group, told Crikey that] the current question on the [#AustralianCensus, “What is the person's religion?”] leads many people to talk about their cultural background rather than what religion they align with.

“It was in the interests of bishops and the church that the “cultural Catholics get counted so the Catholic Church can overstate its relevance, and continue to enjoy the privileged funding, policy, and media access benefits”, he said.

““There’s an awful lot of religious privilege that flows from the census stage and that needs to be changed.””

Two Shintō shrines on Awaji Island are associated with the creation myth of Japan (国生み神話) in the earliest chronicles Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. At Onokoro Island Shrine (自凝島神社), visitors are encouraged to perform rituals to sacred stones for good fortune. The sekirei stone (鶺鴒石) is for couples, with a white and red cord, and I was surprised that my wife grasped my hand and prayed as we held the cords.

We also went to Izanagi Shrine (伊弉諾神宮), dedicated to the two founding gods or pillars (二神、又は二柱) of the archipelago. Worshippers believe that the founding gods dwell in the 900-year-old husband-and-wife camphor tree (夫婦楠). We have seen a similar tree at Ōmiwa Jinja in Nara (大神神社) where two trees merged into one at the base. We also noticed a connection to the Onokoro Island Shrine at the Izanagi Shrine, a small sekirei monument to married couples (夫婦鶺鴒像), and both sites included a bird motif.

I was just thinking a bit about taxes and fair shares and one of Jesus' parables popped into my head. See, the church has a flat tax system, or at least, the evangelical church does. Each member of the church is supposed to voluntarily give 10% of their income, which the church is very adamant that God will return to you with interest. I remember hearing stories from clearly well-off Sunday-school teachers telling of how they "used to struggle a lot financially" but would still find ways to make it fit in their budget, and now they were comfortable. This was a story told to children, mind you, and with adult retrospect I can think of some additional context I'd like to ask for in that story.

I am familiar but not well read of the Bible. Jesus advocated for radical compassion. One could suggest that he built from the notion of welcoming the stranger, a custom endemic to the ME. The Greeks embodied it as well. Travelers were welcomed, fed and sheltered, and only then asked their business. Ultimately humanity’s super power is in reciprocity. All of the above examples of its expression.

JC also said its not our job to cull weeds from wheat but care for all.

@scott There’s a pastor on YT, Rev Ed Trevors, an Anglican priest who is useful to sample. He’s a version of Christianity I like to remind myself of, because the other kind has been given a megaphone.

You might listen a bit to some of his posts because he definitely works the compassion angle. Some posts are specifically religious in ways I care little about, but most of them talk about behavior towards others.
