Here's an animation of a small green sport utility truck traversing the turning, ever-changing Rubik's cube street scene.

This is probably the final full animation I'm doing with this scene. I've enjoyed this series a lot!

A small green utility truck drives over the surface of a Rubik's cube street scene. The cube spins to follow the truck, and segments of the cube shift ahead to make sure the truck has a road to drive on. The scene transitions from day to night and back again as the video loop plays.

Another animation test after making a little more progress on this today... couldn't help but try it with the full rotating cube!

There are a bunch of problems on display, but I'm happy with how the timing looks. Can't wait to get it done! 😀

Hopefully the "magic" of the final animation isn't ruined by these in-progress renders.

The truck drives over the edge of one side of the cube and then bounces onto the next side, dodges some traffic cones, then drives over to the next side. The cube's pieces rotate to keep the road it drives on intact.

Finally getting back to pre-holiday work!

This is a short animation test I rendered out just to check the timing... this is probably the last thing I'll be working on with this scene, but the animation is slow going.

The final will rotate the cube as the truck traverses it. 😎

A peek at some cones from the Rubik's cube render. These weren't in @stublag's original concept, but I added them because my son is obsessed with cones, and they seemed like a natural fit for the scene. ☺️

Here's another animation of the Rubik's traffic cube, this time with a little more motion and a lot more action! 😄

(Hopefully you aren't sick of seeing these in your timeline!)

Created and rendered in Blender 4 with Cycles. All the materials are procedural, and I used Geometry Nodes for the grass, pine trees, and smoke ring.

Small vehicles populate some parts of the roads, and you can see the cross-section of dirt and rock on the edges of some pieces. The camera circles around the cube slowly and accelerates to show the lighter side and darker side. Various little animations happen as the animation progresses, with cars moving, lights flashing, and more. One segment of the cube rotates back and forth on its central pivot.
