It’s only early May but 2023 album of the year is already going to be a very tough choice. This is a strong early contender. Collective of Scottish artists who just gathered in a studio on a Hebridean island for a few days and improvised. Tremendous.
#NowPlaying early 1970s #progrock & sub-genres. Classic #typography of the period. From the unique & ornate to the stylistically absent, most suggesting an 'otherness', whether it be in historical time, from another culture, or from another world or universe entirely. #vinyl#graphicdesign#logodesign
U2 Rattle and Hum OG pressing. Slight sleeve damage but records are still good. Only bought for Desire really but the rest is great. #vinyl@vinylrecords
Giving this slightly beaten up St Lucia EP another spin to see if the warp is better having been in the stack for a while and it's much better #vinyl@vinylrecords
Boston-based Dumptruck is a favorite, kind of obscure band that specialized in guitar-based jangle-pop. So, of course, on this 2nd album they enlisted Don Dixon to produce them.
A definitely more mainstream album than their first (“d is for dumptruck”). Lots of guitar interplay, harmony, etc.
Followed by “For the Country”, their best album, which I don't seem to have on LP. All are streaming…
It's been 3 long years of owning this record the first time around then selling it due to money issues both of which were before it took off in value and here I am grateful for a mint copy at £50! #vinyl@vinylrecords
One of the things about middle aged gittery is sometimes a band pass you by that your 17 year old self would have been all over from day one.
Such are The Vacant Lots. I ‘found’ them recently and given their influences and connections to my beloved Spacemen 3 and Sonic Boom, I can’t believe it has taken me so long.
Could not have been more thrilled then to pick up their 2014 debut ‘Departure’ in gorgeous unplayed black and white vinyl this week.
Our elders had a lot to say about us as a culture. We were so very depraved you see. But I've flipped through their record collections at thrift stores.. between every two gospel records? Smut. #records#vinyl#thrifting#smut
I had this double-LP arrive some weeks back. It's 'Onwards System' by Cell, which is psychedelic/downtempo. I think it was the first vinyl that Ultimae released in white, but there's also a black version. It's also 180g. Very relaxing album.
