I appreciate the need for people to use , but as someone who defers to science, I'm likely not going to be someone who uses it very often.

Study on trigger warnings having a net negative effect:

I can't believe the Sacklers are going to walk away with immunity after all of the bodies they piled up with

Horrible.

Decad3nce,

@simon I'm sorry, and I appreciate the politeness, I won't be doing that. All scientific research points to trigger warnings having more of a negative effect than a positive one.

I apologize if that's not something you're keen on, feel free to filter out my content by muting me.

Decad3nce,

@simon that's fine. I will be migrating off of this instance then.

Alright, I need a new hobby. Any recommendations?

Decad3nce,

@jcrabapple only if they're super duper quiet.

Decad3nce,

@jcrabapple I want a keyboard that makes no sounds when I type on it, but also mechanical.

This might be worth he effort.

Decad3nce,

@jcrabapple I may have to ping you about this once I get going 👀

A reminder to anyone in and especially in , just because you can make pretty pixels and automate portions of a workload doesn't make you any more valuable than the next person working hard to support their family and community.

Also doesn't make you smarter or capable of applying that knowledge to other mediums.

Long before I joined the team itself, I worked at a few start ups customizing everything possible in the operating system.

During that time I helped a friend of mine fact check and review chapters for their most recent book on OS development.

It's an absolute privilege to be listed in the acknowledgements. I am immensely grateful.

Acknowledgments Blake: Many people contributed to this book over the years. Author and colleague, Zigurd Mednieks, made it possible as part of a series of small, replaceable titles. My agent, Carol Jelen, helped me pitch it, and the original editor, Laura Lewin, guided it during the first years. Adnan Begovic and Gil Zahaiek kept us honest technically, and Sheri Replin is our maven of prose. The incredibly patient Malobika Chakraborty supported the project through some very dark days. Lori Lyons and Aswini Kumar carried it over the finish line. Most of all, though, thanks to my co-author, Larry Schiefer, whom I was thrilled to score as a tech reviewer and who rescued this book from oblivion, breathed new life into it, and made it worth reading. You absolutely rocked it, Larry.
A technical book like this is very challenging to write, especially for a moving target like Android! I would like to thank our technical reviewers for your hard work and feedback. Adnan Begovic and Gil Zahaiek, your insight as Android experts was invaluable. To our editors, Malobika Chakraborty and Sheri Replin, thank you for your understanding, patience, and a good prodding when needed. Through all the challenges, you both have stood steadfast in making sure this book happened, and I'm grateful for both of your insights and efforts.

Wrote about how after nine months of shipping nothing but technical fixes, BeReal's first big idea is … to become a worse version of Instagram stories 😩 https://www.platformer.news/p/how-bereal-missed-its-moment

For @trunksapp, I also plan on adding account creation.

I'll likely present the user of a very small list of servers as the default prompt (think 3-4 very large ones) as well as seeding explore discovery with some default sources.

often times is actively antagonistic towards new users and content discovery, and the only way to combat that is by providing some amount of curation and hand holding.

Decad3nce,

If you don't hook your reader in the first few paragraphs, no one is going to read your book long enough to enjoy it.

Decad3nce,

@cheeaun Everything that's in that page (aside from follow suggestions) is a merged/ranked result of all of the sources which does include hashtags.

I also set it up in such a manner that I can provide my own "data source" in the future. I have some neat ideas for that 😁.

Decad3nce,

@box464 that shouldn't be too hard.

Just migrated over from another instance and figured I'd do an .

I am a SWE whose background is heavily in the space. In college and throughout, I helped bring up devices for / and eventually became the frameworks lead for the parent company.

Apart from that I really enjoy , hanging with my wife and dog, making mobile games, apps, and playing with my soldering iron. I'm always looking for new projects!
