From an artist's point of view, is there any difference between you buying a donated CD from a charity shop and downloading pirated music from a torrent site?

Neither gives the artists, songwriters, producers, publishers, or distributors any money.

Neither reports to a charts authority to show popularity.

Both have the same impact on secondary revenue like gig tickets & merchandise.

sigh I have an American client who is having trouble, they say, being able to convert to £ (their end) for paying me. I have business bank account for my LTD that only accepts £ or €, apparently.

Anyone know of a way around this? A service either they or I could use? I would really prefer not to change bank accounts. Wish I'd know Starling was this limited at the outset.

I set up Wise. Then used them to convert and transfer to Starling.

I'm told that some American banks can convert to £ before they send, but seems to be a bit niche/unreliable.

Payoneer is another alternative. I'm trying that out for one client.

The other problem is that you need to trust the account which is sharing the content. It would be possible for a malicious server to introduce fake OGP tags into content they share.

I keep getting TrackBack spam in .
But, what's weird, is that the domains don't exist!

This is a typical one. A nonsensical and non-existent domain - R9NpK.com

I can't understand how these are submitted, nor what their goal is.

The nice thing about finding a typographical mistake in an is that they files are just HTML.
You can inspect element and see where the bug is.

In this case, they used &; when they clearly meant &;

@belldotbz developers are very literal minded. A service should say what it is.
I have no idea what Piccalilli means (other than delicious relish).

Generic names are easily confusable. Did I want to go to picalilly, picadilly, trickadiilli?

OK, I might get confused between css tricks, css tips, css trips - but at least I have a vague idea of what it does, and if I've visited before, typing "CSS" into my browser my autocomplete.

So I vote for name change.

For reasons that I cannot disclose right now, but will soon, I recently looked into BIMI. And... I have some concerns. BIMI is a spec built on top of DKIM and DMARC, and allows companies to show a logo beside their emails in supporting frontends (like gmail). It requires purchasing a very expensive certificate, I think the justification for it is dubious, and I am not a fan. But even if we put that aside, it's also very strange on a technical level. 🧵

Came to the conclusion that it was ridiculously expensive for very little gain.

Does anyone know of a modern phone which allows call recording without root?

I'm currently on an aging 5T running and can record calls just fine - a button in the dialler lets me record straight from the line. I don't need to put it on speaker and record via the microphone.

(Looking for 1st hand experience, not search results. No need to reply to discuss the legality of call recording. I need root-less for online banking etc.)

Bugger. Looks like Starling bank has stopped working with

So I either need to get a new phone which has an unmodified OS, hope that Starling fix it, or move bank.

All within the next 14 days.

NB it is completely legitimate that software makers can decide where their code runs - see https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2023/05/the-limits-of-general-purpose-computation/ - but it annoys me.

No, we just live in a country which makes it easy to automatically switch banks.
A strong government regulator has meant that retail banking is free, switching is painless, and banks will provide monetary incentives to attract customers.
