"BREAKING: In a huge win for the planet, 18 jurists from the UN have found that children can sue their own countries over climate change under a treaty called the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Children are now leading a powerful global shift in the law on climate.🙏👊"

Met my students today in person and let me tell you, the future looks good.

Damn it. Words matter. Not a comment on anyone’s appearance. Just really impressed with the enthusiasm and eagerness to learn and do good in the world expressed by students.

Tomorrow will be the third day my child’s school is on early release due to excessive heat. The school doesn’t have AC (which is common in New England) and the heat index is 99. I’m glad they are taking this seriously.

Trying to do chores I don’t want to do on the weekend. Today: cleaning windows. Thinking the lichen growing on the inner edge of the screen is a clue this has been put off too long. Eww.

Another school year starts, another time having The Conversation with my child about what to do if there’s a school shooting/ bomb threat/ armed intruder. It doesn’t get easier. Utterly infuriating in fact.

My child has severe anxiety so having concrete actions they can take helps.
-have a spare battery and charging cable with them so can keep coms open in emerging situation.
-develop good special awareness so they know where stairs and exits are.
-as they’ve gotten older, we talk more about evaluating safety and making their own decisions, not just waiting to be told what to do.

Went to an open house by UConn energy engineering research group we collaborate with. Had only the meanest understanding of their work, but good to make contact and they do have an exquisite view from their bathrooms. Look at that LID green roof!

Here’s a hypothetical question not related at all to a presentation I may have gone to today. If you are an academic researcher working on modeling cyber security threats (but not working on mitigating or detecting those threats) how, ethically, do you publish your research?

IcooIey,
@IcooIey@mastodon.green avatar

This is a real question! The work is important, but how to you get it out there without facilitating attacks?

Honestly, the idea of reading all day for a month while someone else does the cooking, shopping, and there’s no where to go and no one who needs anything from me seems fantastic.

Always discovering new cool things at our . What an interesting idea: you can check out a packet for someone experiencing memory loss to help you spark memories and engage together.

Memory kits in clear plastic bags with red edges and handles. Hanging from a display in a library.

@olivermantell Really impressed with our public library. They’ve expanded resources beyond books and music to seeds, tools, faves, puzzles, craft supplies, research services. Always something new and surprising. Even have passes to museums, zoos, and other attractions patrons can checkout.
