My wife tells me that she is observing conversations on X where regular, non-tech users are beginning to consider Linux because of Recall.

That's how bad an idea this is.

Because this doesn’t seem to be getting through to people who really should know better:

Folks actually know how much pay they take home, what bills they got, and how much (if anything) is left in their bank accounts. Telling them they’re wrong, they “just don’t understand the economy” isn’t the smart political messaging you seem to think it is.

Microsoft’s new “Recall” feature will record everything you do on your PC

Recall uses Copilot+ PC features "to take images of your active screen every few seconds."

What gives you a Star Trek vibe without being Star Trek?

Could be from any medium, not just TV and movies. Like if you've got a board game or a role-playing game or a video game or a card game or a ball game or a tracing game or a tangerine game or a book game or a laser game, any of those would work, too.

And there's no need to mention Galaxy Quest or Orville as I am already aware of those.

Using vague language about scientific facts misleads readers

Using subjective phrasing like "scientists believe" makes facts seem like opinions.

@arstechnica When “journalism” is stenography with no concept of or interest in facts, this is the natural consequence.

    Forget Skynet.

Slopnet will be the end of us — not with nukes and cyborgs but with slop, injecting AI slop into every service, operation, utility, everything we rely on. Nobody will notice until municipal grids fail, planes fall from the sky, food supplies dwindle, summers extend year-round, and billions die.

Then the slop-meister trillionaires will gather in their mountain bunker retreat, pop the last bottles of champagne, and toast to their victory over human diversity and compassion.
