yes, but... my tolerance/appreciation for retro graphics is much, much more forgiving than for retro control schemes, mechanics and ludic design choices. So I might be interested in a modern game that looked like that.

One of the harder lessons in programming for me is understanding when not to generalize or try to enforce a pattern. I like things neat and orderly, but many things just aren't.

The problem with having a Wordpress site is that it's really hard to experiment with your theme. There's no safe workspace to build them up to only apply when you're done, you just kinda have to do them piecemeal in prod.

... guess who just blatted all his customisations? 😩

Real answer though - there's got to be plugins that let you have a different theme for members and guests.
And if not, I've been getting a lot of use of a plugin called WPCode (free version) for inserting modular snippets into the framework. I'm pretty sure you could insert something early that would override whatever php function returns the theme, so that you could work on a duplicate theme that only you see.

Been trying to figure out how to phrase the next era of my / studio

If it's my partner and I making games, but she's a very silent artist partner and wants zero exposure, do I just roll the "single creator" angle?

It feels weird, but also a lot of single creator games sure have lots of contractors so shrug?

Like if I say "couple", EVERYONE gonna zero in on that. The angle they'll want is couple interviews. And, well. No.

My tagline seems to have become "Aetheric Games is a tiny indie studio in Edinburgh, Scotland" sometimes followed by "consisting of Nick Bell and collaborators."

I try not to call myself solo, partly because I'm talking to young folks a lot and trying to get them to collaborate and acclimatise to teamwork.

But also, I like to have a label that's exactly one step away from me personally. Sometimes, I feel like being the front, but sometimes Aetheric is [closed for business].

I have a weird desire for a piece of clockwork, small enough to fit in your pocket or hold in your hand, that vibrates strongly once a second. Like a pocket watch but without the clock face and with much stronger vibration.

I kind of want to hold it when I'm talking, to help remind me to slow down and enunciate.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to exist.

Tangentially related, I sometimes set alarms or reminders to make my phone vibrate regularly throughout the day, to keep me aware of the passage of time. It helps a lot with my perception of time, but inevitably, I start to find it annoying and delete them all 🤣

Strongly suspect that the reason games tend to focus so much on combat is because mamals get a kick of out making something go away.

In Unity, I liked creating my own editors to work with game data, scene object states, quick testing, etc. Today I tried similar possibilities in Unreal Engine. Editor Utility Widget it's a much more cool system, and with blueprint it's a whole other level of tool building

@fallible I've got kinda the opposite going on. I've spent months and months (on and off) on shaders and look dev, but when I wonder if I can demo my game any time soon, I remember that it's functionally unchanged from this time last year, including the buglist. 😅

Welp, I suppose I needn't worry about SEO for aetheric-games.com .... Google just simply won't search for it. Searching for "aetheric games" returns results for "aesthetic games" no matter if you use the "search instead..." link, if you use quote marks, or even if you use "verbatim" mode. 🙄

The web has never lived up to its promise, but remember when it used to work kinda, maybe sometimes?
