The verdict may not matter to Trump's base, but I do think there is a group of people it matters to who are being overlooked: the people who were already likely to vote for Biden.

A Trump acquittal would have sapped trust in legal systems and government further. It would fueled apathy. Hopelessness and apathy can reelect Trump.

Talked to a very smart person this afternoon who reminded me: climate fatalism ("it's too late") is a soft form of denialism.

Everything we do from here is worthwhile. It counts, it makes a difference. No matter what damage has been done, we can still make things better than if we had done nothing. We can still look after the world, look after our friends and family. Action has results.

Portugal is crushing it: renewables met 91% of Portugal’s electricity needs in the first 4 months this year & have pushed their⚡️prices to a 4 yr low!

Renewables are carrying an increasing % of their electrcity demand in the first 4 months in 2024:

  • 95% April
  • 91% March
  • 88% Feb
  • 81% in Jan

Portugal’s rapid transition is evidence it can be done: renewables are up from 27% in 2005 & 54% in 2017 with their last coal power plant shut down in 2021.

What started out as a small "that'd be a nice accessibility/hint feature" turned into quite a complicated mathematical journey 😮

Still, I'm proper happy with how this new feature has turned out - no more pixel hunting in CRT7 with your fancy phone!

When I was a kid I figured out that if I wanted to know how the magician did a trick I shouldn't look where they pointed. Then I figured out that this didn't just apply to magicians, but to politicians, media, clergy, and more.
A whole bunch of folks have not figured this out.

Games like and are often categorized very differently. The formula though seems nearly the same. Gated challenge areas that give new capabilities, that enable wider exploration.

The difference is largely in visual perspective and control mechanics. Sometimes our genres seem like a feeble attempt at drawing boundaries around an inherently flexible medium.

The US government's entire beef with TikTok is they believe it's spying on Americans for the sake of the Chinese government, as opposed to American social media companies who spy on Americans for the sake of local, state, and federal law enforcement and various intelligence agencies and literally anyone else who is willing to pay for that data.

Which is why they want TikTok sold to an American company willing to hand that data over to them instead of instituting actual privacy regulations.

OH! I missed this going live, so let's make up for that:

There are so many amazing games in this bundle, but more importantly all money donated goes to the PCRF, a really important organisation giving access to medical relief, food and water.

Please buy/donate if you can 🧡

A woman from Oklahoma was posting pro-Palestinian posts on Facebook and Zuckerberg handed her posts over to the FBI, banned all her accounts, and the FBI visited her at her home. The lengths the U.S. government will go to should worry everyone:

Al Jazeera reports on FBI officers visiting a woman’s home, video is mostly the agents (3) outside of her home and interview footage with the woman.

there's something real fucking dark about how AI is too inaccurate for tracking people around a grocery store so they have humans to make sure every last item is paid for, whereas if your AI is generating targets for a genocide then a serious error rate is perfectly within acceptable parameters.

"even if you don’t know for sure that the machine is right, you know that statistically it’s fine. So you go for it.”

absolutely chilling reporting on Israel's use of AI to allow them to rationalise genocide of Palestinians - it isn't about accuracy, it's about giving the pretext and justification (machine says go!) to continue and scale up violence

We need a movement for conscientious objection to ReCaptchas. I don’t want to be forced to participate in training machine learning models to identify sidewalks, crosswalks, buses and cars in order to go about my daily life digitally.

I don’t want driverless cars on my city streets. I don’t believe the fiction that this technology will ever be safe.

I do not consent to using my own cognitive labor to train the models that will mow down people on foot or bikes later with no accountability.
